connecting sky mini q box to internet

Here's my situation. I'm confused and nothing seems to work

My main sky box is connected fine, to my BT internet hub

I've got a sky wifi extender which has 2 solid green lights - power and wifi. The "connected" light is off.

On my home computer I can see a list of active wifi networks. When my , one of which is, I think, the wifi network my sky q box makes to connect with my q mini box. That wifi network is on when my q mini box is on, but disappears if I unplug the mini box.

The mini box will not connect to wifi or the tv.

I don't really understand what it is trying to do, to be honest. It tells me to press the button with the 2 arrows on a circle on my nearest connected sky product. I tried doing that on the router, and it didn;t connect, the lights just flashed for ages. I tried moving my q mini box to be next to that extender and still no joy.

I tried moving my q box upstairs near the main box, and pressed the arrows button on both the mini and the main q box. The mini then connected and started to work, but it was connected to my BT router so when I went downstairs the connection failed - my bt internet does not reach down here.

Now my mini is not connected to wifi or tv. The network setup is asking me whether I want to connect to a sky wifi or another wifi. If I choose wifi I get the "press the arrows button on a connected sky device" message which leads me nowhere. If I choose another wifi it doesn't connect as the signal does not reach this far.

I suspect either the main box is not connecting to the sky wifi or the extender is not working, but I'm only guessing. Any advice would be most welcome

hi @M37841

The first thing you need to know is that SKY Q mini does not connect to your Home wifi or router (unless it is connected directly via ethernet).

It only connects to a wifi generated by the main box - the SKy Extender will also use/extend the SKY wifi.

The mini's connection to the internet is not direct but via the main bos

What can also be confusing is that your BT routermay  show the mini as connected to your Router but it will via the same connection as the main box

Extenders are not of any real use close to either your main box or mini they need to be placed in beteen - ideally around half way.

I am afraid I have no personal experience of the extenders so cannot advise on the lights or buttons to press

Re: connecting sky mini q box to internet

Thanks. Yes the extender is normally half way between the q box and the q mini, I have just been moving things around to try to figure out which bit is broken. The mini box usually connects to a sky mesh - if I go into the network connections on my mini box it would normally show a sky wifi network, I think.

I think the problem might be that the extender itself is not connected to the sky mesh, but I don't know how to check that or fix it. I'm really nervous of breaking my main box as I don't understand how the sky mesh gets created or where I can find it in the settings of my main box.
