Why has Sky blocked RTE news?

Anyone know why RTE is unavailable on channel 161? All other programmes are ok.

Re: Why has Sky blocked RTE news?

I'm getting all the other programmes on RTE 1 and 2. It's the news they are saying is unavailable.

@PC701  That sounds like regionalisation based on your postcode registered with sky issue

Re: Why has Sky blocked RTE news?

Are you in NI? I've read comments elsewhere of the news being blocked due to olympics rights.

No change of address. I live in the north.

They block international football as it's showing on Sky Sports but never the news

That sounds about right. Olympics rights are very complicated and strict, even to just show a few seconds of highlights in the news. RTE won't have the rights to show them in Northern Ireland. It's also why the NBC News isn't on CNBC for the next few weeks.

Re: Why has Sky blocked RTE news?

Sky, call me a dinosaur if you like but RTE News is  the only TV I watch. Can you work something out to get round this? I'm not about to to stop my subscription as there are others in the house but as the account holder there needds to be something on Sky for me. Please see what you can do about this.

You're only addressing other customers on this forum. Not directly to Sky...

Re: Why has Sky blocked RTE news?

RTE are saying now that they won't block the news. The same link as earlier but now with added confusion https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2024/0725/1461783-rte-news-ni-broadcast/

@ViewerL  This isn't anything to do with Sky as other posts & new articles have advised.

Simply because RTE are on the Sky platform doesn't mean Sky control what RTE do or don't show.

Sky are responsible for the output of their own channels, basically any Channel branded Sky.

The 100s of other channels including RTE are not owned or controlled by Sky.

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.
