Which network to link SkyQ mini box to?

I don't have Sky broadband as it is not available offshore. I have a 2Tb SkyQ box in the lounge and a minibox in a bedroom upstairs. Both are connected via wifi and I am currently suffering from regular internet dropouts on both boxes.

To troubleshoot this I intend to use ethernet from my non Sky router to the main box but continue to use wifi for the mini. I would normally connect via wifi to my non Sky broadband service. However when searching for a network there are two Sky networks shown, I understand that these are both from the main SkyQ box.

Should I connect the mini to one of these instead of my own ISP service in an attempt to improve connectivity between the two boxes?

You'd use a WPS button press on the main Q box (for a few seconds until it starts flashing) followed within a couple of minutes by a WPS button press on the Mini box.

Thanks I will do just that. Presumably the system knows which Sky network to link to?

Hi @COLBY2467

Best way to connect mini is by carrying out a Network reset.

Certainly should help if you are connecting the main Q box by Ethernet to your router.

Start with main Q box and first carry out a Network reset with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Select connect wired to non Sky Router. Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.

Repeat the network reset on any minis in the Mini Home menu..

Network reset found in mini Home - Settings - Setup.

Highlight Status and select reset on the right hand side.

You will be asked to press the WPS button on the nearest Q device (not on the mini as the Network reset will start the WPS automatically.

In your case the nearest Q device will be the Main Q box.

If you cannot get the mini connected you may need a Q WiFi booster positioned midway between the Main Q box and the mini.   You will need to contact Sky directly to ask for a Q Booster.
