Using SKY Q over a VPN Connection

Hi, 

Implemented a Firewall at home for security reasons - I've got two gateways to the same router (one which is clear internet and the other is routed via NordVPN)

If my SKY Q box is forced via the NordVPN Gateway then I get messages saying I've an internet problem.

If I move the connection to the Clear Internet then SKY Q works fine as expected.

Is this a non-starter to use SKY over the VPN tunnel?

Yes.  (Usually because you'll appear to be outside the UK)

Doh - Found what the issue was...

Didn't have a rule on the vlan that Sky was in to be able to access the internet via the VPN tunnel

Added that and now my SKY service is going over a VPN to the internet for downloads etc

Just need to work out now how to get a different vlan to see the sky box for the mobile app to see recordings etc. on the box from the ipad 🙂

Yes.  (Usually because you'll appear to be outside the UK)

You can use a UK POP with Nord so that should be manageable.

Although Sky (and other UK providers) can and do attempt to list and block known VPN endpoints with UK IP addresses, because those are also where overseas users are landing in an attempt to evade geo-restrictions.
