Unable to download or use mini boxes when using Non sky router

I have recently changed over to box broadband and have a Nokia router which is hard wired to my sky q.  I can connect it to my main sky enough to watch and record live tv programmes but can connect download or connect sky q  to mini boxes. Even in the settings I can't turn it on to connect minis to q. Hope this all makes sense
