UHD channels not in use

Hi all,

I pay extra to watch UHD. Before you could select to watch any sky sports channel in UHD.. now it's only if they are on particular channels. Recently I have noticed that there are plenty of programs like Sky Sports news that I'd love to watch in UHD.. but it's not allowing me to.

plus, out of 4 UHD channels now, only two have something on, the other two are "this is Ultra HD" for days.. why?!

why can't we have freedom to choose what to watch in UHD like it was before? Why am I paying extra to be told when I can watch UHD..

very frustrating

hi @Chris_pace

There has never been more than 2 dedicated SKY UHD channels - SKY Sports Main Event UHD & SKY SpF1 UHD

All other SKY UHD sport was /is via the Red button which would either take you to  the Main Event UHD channel or to one of a couple UHD channels which only ever show an event that is live  (e.g.A Football game or  Cricket match)

Outside of the any live events these will show messages like the one you mention and are not available via the EPG

SKY Sports News in UHD is only shown on the Main event UHD channel when there is no live event on it (We are not 100% sure if it is genuine 4k/HDR or just upscaled)

The majority of UHD is via download - I'm watching the Penguin and Day of the Jackal...

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

The fact of the matter is that it costs more money to produce content in 4K. Sky more than doubled their operating losses last year to £224 million. They simply can't afford it, hence the reduction in 4K produced content.

Most of the non-sport content in 4K comes from overseas markets. Sometimes Sky save money by only purchasing the rights to the HD versions for UK broadcast. The White Lotus and Succession for example were both available in 4K with Dolby Vision and Atmos in the USA, but in the UK were only available in HD.

White lotus season 1 & 2 are certainly shown as available in UHD and atmos, don't know what format they were originally broadcast in.

@doc-ab

They were 'broadcast' (sent over satellite) in HD, with the UHD version delivered over the internet on-demand: that's the typical model.
