Re: This programme is no longer available
The 'handshake' issue is at the heart of it, but it is surprising to discover that the Remote is actually playing a part in the problem.
You never know, some Sky employee may happen upon this thread and shed some light on what is actually going on 😉

Re: This programme is no longer available
Last night I turned the Sky box into standby using the front button, and turned the TV/soundbar off using the TV remote.
This morning, I turned the TV/soundbar back on using the TV remote and then hit the button on the front of the Sky box.
And it worked.
(I had to manually change the TV and soundbar to the appropriate inputs, as (usually) hitting the Home button on the Sky remote makes that happen automatically, but that's not surprising).

Re: This programme is no longer available
Getting there for sure ... but this morning I got up to find the old issue of the box stuck in 'wait until the screen goes blank' with the fan running at 100%
Hmmm ....

Re: This programme is no longer available
Try this:
So test this out for yourself ... Use your TV Remote to switch on the TV, then Physical Box Standby Button to wake up Sky Q (and then standby button to shut down the box before TV remote to switch off the TV.
Definitely helps.

I know it should be obvious, but:
(1) engineer visits don't fix software problems
(2) replacing hardware doesn't fix software problems
Do not agree to (1) or (2) if you have the symptoms described on this thread. Equally don't badger Sky's frontline phone team and expect them to have detailed knowledge of the progress of the team who will be trying to fix this 🙂
It's massively unhelpful and a waste of everyone's time for people to be told - via any means - that they should book engineer visits, or replace their hardware and lose all their recordings and have to set everything completely up from scratch all for no reason. I wouldn't agree to the latter unless I had hard concrete proof and it was the very last resort. For the same reason I don't rebuild my house to fix a dripping tap in one room.

@manassas77 thankyou for your helpful posts :). I haven't ever seen "This programme is no longer available" on my SkyQ box. I have however had problems getting a picture over HDMI (LG C8 2018 model) after the box is woken up from Standby using the remote control. My previous work-around was various combinations of physically unplugging the HDMI cable / in and out of Standby until I got a picture. I did have success when I pressed the box's Standby button on the front panel, but didn't twig why that may be. Gemini's speculation about Bluetooth - on this occasion at least - does sound logical and I'm sure people at Sky continue to work on the problem.

Re: This programme is no longer available
I've been reading the various posts with interest as a few weeks ago we started to have similar issues. When this all started we had the message "This program is no longer available" but this then started to be issues with the picture freezing and sound stuttering. Bare with me it's a bit long and technical-ish.
Basically we don't have a standard Sky Q setup. Our boxes are part of an Audio / Visual system where we can watch them on any tv in the house. So we don't have easy access to the boxes, we can restart them though through a power distribution system which can target the boxes, it basically powers them off and switches them back on after 30 seconds. A few weeks ago our hdmi / ethernet network was replaced and the first issue we came across was the Sky Q box freezing (still picture and stuttering sound). We just assumed it was the new network and concentrated on that changing various handshake settings, power settings, timings etc etc. Nothing fixed it. Our main Sky box froze which then had the knock on effect of taking out the 2 mini boxes we have. We also have a few Apple TV's and various other hdmi based boxes attached to the same system and they were not affected.
It suddenly dawned on me the Sky box was the common fault. I made a note of the software installed on the box and it was Q350.000.12.00L (679jvlc). At worst the problem occurred every 10 minutes or so on the day I decided to contact Sky.
I spoke to Sky and the call handler agreed that due to the age of the box that maybe the hard disk was on its way out, they sent a new box out. We were without a box for a few days (Sunday the call was logged).
In the meantime I substituted the main Sky Q box in the system with an off the shelf Freeview box and used the same hdmi / audio connections that the Sky Q box used in the system. This box ran flawlessly for the time it took for the new box to arrive. This suggested to me that it was indeed the Sky Q box at fault and not our distributed TV system.
The new box arrived from Sky and I took out the Freeview box and powered up the new Sky box. I went into settings, turned off all the standby options (this is how the installers left the previous box) and checked the software version and it was still on an older version of some Q340 variant. I didn't update it as I thought I'd just thought we'd test it.
For the rest of the week the sky box ran fine until last night when the box had frozen again (still picture and the sound was stuttering). I did a reset and got the box back up and running. I went to check the software version and it had updated to the Q350 version.
So my conclusion (and that of our AV installers) is that the issue is definitely Sky Q v350 software in relation to HDMI handshakes. We do have various TVs, mainly Samsung and Sony Bravia. For years this system has worked flawlessly until this latest release of Q350. The fact that the Freeview box works fine on the same HDMI system proves it is the Q box at fault.
I hope Sky can get a fix rolled out as soon as possible. I may have to substitute the Freeview box again but given we're paying (a substantial amount) for a service we aren't getting, I think Sky need to acknowledge the issue and issue a statement as to a forthcoming solution.

Re: This programme is no longer available
Success again this morning just using the power button on the front of the box. 2 days in a row.
Is it coincidence? Does it prove something? Tune in tomorrow to see if I can extend the streak!

Re: This programme is no longer available
I agree with your points, but unfortunately not everyone is aware of this ongoing issue. I worked as an IT professional for 40 years and when the box started acting up I just assumed it was getting old and cranky (like me 🙄). It was only after Sky replaced the box without question and the problems remained that I started digging into why it was happening.
What we really need is a sticky post from an administrator (or a super user, hint hint) to recognise that there is an ongoing problem, as there are disparate threads effectively all from the same root cause:
1. Sky Q not waking up and not responding to remote or front box standby button.
2. Audio only - no pictures and 'This programme is no longer available' messages
3. Sky Q stuck on 'press home when the screen goes blank' message with fan blowing at 100% after overnight update.
4. Programmes not recording even though they have been scheduled.
This might save everyone a lot of grief, but ultimately it should be down to Sky to make this known (even for their own benefit to reduce the number of fault calls) and of course, provide an update on when we can expect a resolution. The mark of a good company is not whether problems arise, but how they are resolved, and how they communicate with their customers.
It's all very well telling us we are VIPs, now we just need to be treated this way.

@manassas77 Afraid superusers are unable to add sticky posts
Strangely I've been on this version of Q since it was released and don't have any of these problems which will make it even harder for Sky to diagnose whats going on and only affecting some people

Re: This programme is no longer available
Absolutely agree - there must be a common demoninator though - Gemini has suggested that it may be the age of the TVs.
It first suggested that it was limited to Samsung and LG but another user on here confirmed a different TV brand, so it is not that.
Only Sky know what was in the last software upgrade that is causing this issue with a lot of folks.

Re: This programme is no longer available
I've worked in IT and development for over 25 years. Software issues that only affect certain users, and are difficult to replicate are one of my biggest problems.
But when they happen, I can't say to my customers that because I can't replicate it, it must not be happening. The fact all of us suddenly have this issue since the start of May shows there is a software issue. 🤷
