I already know watching YT via the AppleTV box doesn't cause this problem. I'm now watching a DVD with the HDMI cables back in their original inputs.
26 minutes in and no problems. The only source this problem happens with is the SkyQ box. The Apple and UHD player are both fine.
It's both irritating and curious why it does this between 15-20 minutes but not thereafter.
As things stand I can live with this irritation. I'm quite relieved it's not the TV as that would be far more concerning.

t does all point to the SKY box behaving badlly but one thing that puzzles me is that the TV flips to Freewview rather than just displaying a 'No signal' or similar message.
Although it won't change anything & i sreally only for my curiosity can you do a test where you start watching SKY and then after only a few minites remove the HDMI cable from the SKY box and see how the TV reacts either immediately or a fter a few mins (or both)
Needless to say this is not normal & I really don't understand why it would happen/

@nigea99 , I'll try that test but it will be tomorrow now as I'm tied up this afternoon.
The fact no one else has reported this suggests it's not down to a setting in the Sky menu. I've already gone through everything. It's something unique in 32 years of having a Sky box in its various guises.

Definitely not a setting - I am thinking maybe a video chip overheating or similar casuing the video signal to drop out
It may be different to other reports of loss of signal as maybe your TV reacts differently to others

If it's an overheating problem why does it happen only the once? You'd expect the problem to persist. But from 5:45 to gone 23:00 yesterday the problem never reoccurred. Very odd.
I did have the Q box swapped some years ago as the internal power supply was making the case very hot. It was swapped for one with the external power supply so you'd think heating wouldn't be a problem
It's being doing this for a few months. Perhaps something will eventually fail.
Do Sky people read these pages? If so, any thoughts?

@nigea99 , I found time to remove the HDMI plug from the Sky box this afternoon whilst watching it. The screen went black and a message appeared saying no signal was being received. That was generated by the TV of course.
When I plugged it back in the picture reappeared. All perfectly normal.
Whilst watching YT via Apple I powered up the Sky box. Around 20 mins later I switched over to it and all was well.
Half an hour ago I powered everything off and started the sequence to watch Sky. 30 mins later and all is well.
This problem only seems to happen when Sky is powered up for the first time each day and the TV is set to receive the signal.
I'm still none the wiser but it does give me a way of avoiding the issue. Just power up Sky when watching another source. Then power it down.
What is frustrating is the lack of Power On / Power Off commands. Toggle isn't very helpful with a Harmony remote.

The bit that puzzles me is that your TV goes to Freeview which is different to the No signal message (that I would expect) with a lack of signal .
The SKY box would not send a signal to get the TV o switch to it's freeview tuner
Anyway I hope your workaround works

@nigea99 , yes, it is bizarre because the Sky sound continues as well as the TV sound being added so audibly it's very clear what has happened.
Thanks for your suggestions. Pity we couldn't get a solution but the problem does appear limited to the only bit of kit I don't own. So a potential swap at some point won't cost me.

All this points to the tv losing the input signal and switching to another. The only way to test this is to bypass the audio device by connecting the sky box directly to the tv.
Unfortunately @Ray+P you are unwilling to do this so we cannot progress any further.

@cuke , you missed two important words. Losing the input signal FROM SKY. Not the Oppo player or the Apple box, just Sky. Therefore the problem lies with the Sky box and only the Sky box.
Over the weekend something strange happened. The problem didn't happen. What did I do differently to when the problem did happen?
I immediately changed to another Sky channel on both Saturday and Sunday. During the week I leave it in BBC1.
Food for thought.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThe "Sky" button / IR code used to be quite useful as a "power on" discreet. Can't remember if there's an equivalent on a Q remote and also I don't think the Harmony can learn codes from another remote unlike the dearly departed Philips Pronto.

I didn't miss anything, I've asked you to try something to see what the result is so as to assert whether your theory is correct.
As we've discussed this within another forum and you've made it clear you are not going to try this we've agreed we cannot go foward and end the discussion.
Fingers crossed what ever has taken place over the weekend is a permanent one.

@Chodley , I've just tried with an older Sky remote and the Sky button does nothing sadly. Thanks for the suggestion.

I think I've discovered what's causing this problem. My AppleTV box. Earlier this evening I watched a programme on it and 15 minutes ago I switched back to Sky.
Just now the TV switched to Freeview and I noticed the power LED on the Apple box came on briefly.
This afternoon after watching YT on the Apple box I unplugged its power lead after switching to Sky. The signal never changed to Freeview.
I just need to look through the Apple menu system to see what might be causing it.
19 Nov 2024 10:50 PM
In the AppleTV menu there's an option to Sleep Now.
If I select it the TV immediately switches to Freeview. Definitely found the cause. Just need to find a solution. So not Sky related. I need to post in the Apple section over at AVForums..
