I have paired the SkyQ remote with the TV and all functions work apart from turning TV on or off - for this I still have to use the Sharp remote
When I try to Turn the TV off with the SkyQ remote, I get an onscreen message asking if want to shut down the TV - options either Cancel or OK - but these have to be selected from the Sharp remote.
This is for my 91yr father with Alzheimers /memory loss who is frequently pressing wrong buttons and deselecting the HDMI source so want to simplify everything onto one remote for him
My mum passed in July and she used to manage all this, they recently upgraded to SkyQ and its all a bit much for him. I have an accessibility remote on order so hope this will help too.
Ideally would just like to be able to turn the tv on, go straight to a Sky channel bypassing the home page, and then select programmes by inputting number, then turn off from same remote
What I guess I need is a non-smart TV

I have the same problem and was hoping someone answered your question, did you ever manage to sort it?

No, sadly not. I have changed lots of settings on the TV and Sky so that Sky box doesnt turn off, so when TV turned on it stays on the last channel, and disabled all the other HDMI ports on the TV, so that eliminates some of the challenges.
I have taped up the TV remote so he only uses the red on/off button.
Also got an accessibility Sky remote which is more like he was familiar with, so generally we have overcome most of the hurdles.
But still need the TV remote to turn on and off

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreIs it possible that the Sharp TV uses an RF remote and not Infrared?
If this is the case you will not be able to pair a Q remote to the TV.
You can check if the TV remote is RF by cupping your hand completely around the end of the remote and see if it still operates the tv.

Will check when I'm at my Dad's next. It used to work in the past but not sure what changed…
