Hi  @Debs2011  the online options to upgrade to an HDR box were removed a couple of years ago now (I think) when there was a shortage of 2TB HDR boxes & they have never been reinstated even though the shortage only lasted a few months

I guess they have have decided it is not worth putting the options back online - even though it would help reduce calls

Re: Sky q hdr boxes

Yeah would be easier to do it online.  May have to go and give them a call soon.

Re: Sky q hdr boxes

I'm in the same situation with a 2TB UHD Sky Q box and looking to upgrade to HDR, but no option available online or via 'Shop Store' as there was previously.

Probably the case Sky want Sky Q customers to see Sky Glass or Stream as their only upgrade path to HDR, but personally I value having a hard drive and dish.

At present I never use any of the apps via Sky as for under £50 I have a Firestick which allows me to access Apple+, Prime, Netflix, Disney etc in 4K HDR, so I'll stick with that and maybe even dispense with Sky altogether.

@boxinghris the reason you cannot upgrade online or through your Sky box is these option were removed when there was a shortage of 2TB boxes and as such have never been added back in

I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer

Re: Sky q hdr boxes

Yes, I'm aware of why this option was removed thanks - that was explained further up the thread.

But what do you mean by 'as such have never been added back in?

Have Sky forgotten to add the options back?

Can they not be bothered?

The options for Sky Glass and Sky Stream are there, and the Store is constantly updated with new offers.

@boxinghris you would need to ask Sky why it has never been added back it has nothing to do with Sky Glass/stream as if that was the case they would have removed the option completely

Re: Sky q hdr boxes

So you don't know why the option was never added back, which is fine, and your opinion is duly noted.

I'd suggest it has everything to do with Sky Glass and Stream, as if Sky want users to upgrade/adopt anything they promote it and make the option to buy into it as simple as possible.

Sky have made a choice not to advertise the HDR box - it's not the case they've simply forgotten to reinstate the option in their Store, or have never gotten around to it.

I'd suggest Sky have  chosen not to advertise the Sky Q HDR box so that customers looking to upgrade to HDR only see Glass/Stream.

I'd also suggest that Glass/Stream will continue to have resources put into it and firmware updates to improve PQ whereas Sky Q won't, so although we've been assured that support for Sky Q will remain I suspect it'll fall behind streaming.

But again, your opinion is noted and thanks for your responses.

Personaly I really do not think it has anything to do with Glass / Stream - the 2TB boxes shortage and subsequent back in stock was well before SKY glass was launched.

I think it probably  just the case that the number of people upgrading is very small & they probably don't think it is worth the effort to promote & re-instate online options

you are , of course right that SKY Glass & Stream are the way forward for SKY and SKY Q is now mature and will get very little resource to advance it further
