If I buy a new sky mini box, does my tv package renew and start a new contract?
You can't buy mini boxes.
However, you can pay Sky £50 to lend you another one for the duration of your multiscreen contract. (I'm presuming you have multiscreen already - there is no additional cost for additional screens)

When I said 'buy' I meant pay sky for the use of. I just don't want it to tie me into another contract as I usually negotiate any deals at the end of my contract which is in January.
