Hi all,
Hoping for some advice and a steer on how to fix an ongoing wifi connectivity problem with one of our Sky mini boxes.
I'm not so clued up on the technical lingo but I'll try and spell out the issue.
- We have our main Sky Q box in our kitchen, as that's where the external port is, and two Sky mini boxes (1 x lounge and 1 x main bedroom)
- I was with sky for my broadband but it was poor across the house, so we switched to BT which on the whole has been ok, except for...
- the lounge sky mini box has been inconsistent from the get go and we are often unable to watch tv in there (but we can run the Netflix / prime apps no problem)
- when I look at the sky mini box network setup I can literally see it flit between a tick and a cross
- I've tried multiple solutions - Wi-Fi extenders, TP links, the different 5 or 2.4 ghz channels (which one is recommended by the way?)
- I have got the option to Ethernet from the cupboard where the Wi-Fi box is to the lounge and up to the back of this sky mini box - but I can't work out how to just have that one sky mini box running off the Ethernet, and the other boxes connected to my Wi-Fi. Any idea on how to override and just set the Ethernet to this one box?
It looks like the sky mini connectivity issue has caused others headaches, so any advice that can be shared would be hugely appreciated. We are about to welcome our first child, and my wife goes on mat leave tomorrow, so being able to offer her the option to sit in the lounge to watch tv would be a big win.
Thanks in advance,
Tom

Are the 'TP links' Poweline network adapters?
Using those, with all Sky WiFi switched off, is generally preferable.
If you are using BT 'Whole Home' disks then those won't help with Mini box issues unless they are linked to a box with ethernet cable.

I did have an advisor helping me 1-2pm but since then they have gone quiet - and the changes we made have actually made everything worse and we can no longer get any live TV.
So if any other folks in this forum could help that would still be greatly appreciated!

For completeness, Sky are now sending an engineer to look at our Sky Q mesh system. Hopefully this will resolve the issue.

Hi @Addie15 - is it possible to speak to someone about this issue as we're still waiting to hear about when the engineer can visit? Thanks

Hi all,
my sky mini box continually losses connection with my sky q box and this is after having the set up for 4 years but it's only just started 4 months ago, broadband is the same, the sky q box is in the same place, sky mini box on the same place, no new devices pinching the WiFi, seen so many people having the same problem recently, does anyone think the mini box or q box need replacing? Anyone having similar issues?

Yes, I had the same problem.
The minibox was forever reporting 'no network connection' (or words to that effect).
I knew full well it was because it was a Wi-fi connection, and I absolutely hate Wi-fi as a connection of choice for precisely this reason. I had exactly the same issues with my Virgin Tivo box (plus the fact the weak signal meant many Tivo functions didn't work even when there wasa connection, and it didn't like the extender I tried, either), and with the awful Ring doorbell system (which is Wi-fi only).
I fixed my Sky issue by running an Ethernet cable and hardwiring the minibox. It was only from one bedroom to another, so it was quite straighforward. I also ran an Ethernet cable outside the house for the Tivo, and that fixed all problems with that. I replaced the Ring doorbell with a Reolink PoE doorbell, and ran another Ethernet cable for that.
I fully appreciate that this might not be of any use in your situation, but it's worth considering.
