Sky box overheating

My mums sky box was whirring when o arrive last night and was very hot. We turnips it off overnight but it's hot again now. Is it a fire risk? And do we need a replacement? If so how do we get one?

Hi @thefunkyplanner   Is it well ventilated, it shouldn't be so hot that you cannot hold your hand on top.

I can rest my hand on top but it is very warm. There is about 8-10cm

eother side and above. Obviously below there is very little as it just sits on its feet on a solid surface. 

even the metal plugs in the back are hot.

@thefunkyplanner another thing to check. Disconnect it temporarily (including unscrewing the cables to the dish, HDMI, power, ethernet if applicable). Pull it out from the cabinet and turn it over.

Check that the air intake holes underneath it are completely free from dust and lint. Maybe use a vacuum hose on a low setting if you do see any signs of a blockage.

Also do the same with the air outlet holes on the back.

You're welcome @thefunkyplanner . My instinct is that the heatwave we're in could be a factor, esp if it's hot in the room.. The box does normally run pretty warm anyway.

It has an internal fan, which I gather you can hear running - so it knows it's hot and trying to cool things. The fan runs at full blast for a few seconds when you power the box on, so you can compare with that when it's fully booted up.
