Sky Sports Golf UHD??

I've recently noticed that UHD for some sports is only available if you have Main event...but not all.

For example...

Recent Eng v India Cricket on cricket channel gives you the option to watch in UHD.

F1 has its own UHD channel

Open Championship golf on Golf channel...can only watch in UHD if you have main event???

How does this make sense?

I don't have main event as I only really watch cricket, golf and F1 and so paying for all sports channels isn't cost effective for me - or it wasn't at my last conversation with Sky.

So I can watch 2 of the above in UHD when available but not the golf??

Anyone have any knowledge of why this is?

hi @Goose0211

As you have noted the F1 channel has it's own dedicated channel.

SKY Sports Main event also is a full time UHD channel

Before the full time channels were set up UHD was only available via the red button and this would swap you to a UHD Satellite channel

SKY used to have just 2 UHD channels available to them I think but  I think increased to 3 when the Full time channels were made available,

Thus when cricket is available in UHD it might use this non dedicated channel as indeed I think some Football games do, so you don't need access to Main Event.

SKY Sports Main  Event does carry other sports but we are not 100% that the source is always UHD/HDR and we are sure that in the past - if not now - some content was/is 'upscaled' (for want of a better word)  to be shown in UHD  - so I think Golf in UHD is seen as a 'bonus' rather than part of the normal sub.

Re: Sky Sports Golf UHD??

The Open Golf on SS1 is upscaled to UHD.    I get a similar picture with my LG Oled on 405 using the UHD effect picture mode!!

If there is a native UHD sports production, there will be a 'watch in UHD' banner on the dedicated channel.
