Sky Q

I'm thinking about upgrading my TV to a

Sony xr55a95 which by all accounts is one of the best. My issue is UHD on Sky Q.  I have issues with my current TV in UHD as it is always very dark. I've seen on forums that this is an issue with Sky Q.

Even on John Lewis one review said it was vet poor on Sky Q. Am I wasting my money upgrading?

Thanks.

hi @Fidel+59

SKy Q uses a form of UHD/HDR called HLG that some lower range TVs, whilst they officially support it  are just not bright enough to work with this

Your proposed TV would not have such a provblem

.BTW I have a Panasonic OLED TV that is not as bright as the one you are thinking of and is more than adequate with SKY Q HDR even on a bright day

What Make/model TV do you currently have ?

Hi @Fidel+59

As @nigea99 has pointed out the main issue with some TV's is that they do not have enough Peak brightness to adequately display HDR.

The Sony you are considering has in the region of 1000 nits.    To get any benefit from UHD/HDR you need at least 600 and so you should find the Sony suitable.

Re: Sky Q

Oh its only a cheap Hisense. Cost about £350. It's not too bad to be fair. But poor on Sky Q UHD.

Hi @Fidel+59   I have a XR-55A95K, Sky Q UHD HDR brilliant on mine. Are you seriously doubting that a top of the range Sony is too dark! Don't trust reviews from strangers (me included), make up your own mind. People leave bad reviews for many reasons, most are completely bogus.

@Fidel+59 I think you would find any OLED TV is likely to be a big improvement

Maybe this might help @Fidel+59

Sometimes we need to tweak the settings a little to get the perfect picture.

Re: Sky Q

Appreciated. I just wanted some feedback before I outlay 2k+ on a TV.

The reviews of the Sony are excellent and I have bought Sony before and know they are a top brand. You have both allayed my fears. I shall go ahead and buy now.

Thanks. 👍

Re: Sky Q

No not comparing, but if Sky Q had an inherent fault then no TV would be suitable but I have now been reassured thanks. 👍
