Sky Q to mini via ethernet stopped working.

Hi our sky mini is connected to sky Q box via ethernet as the distance for wifi was too far. Been installed for over a year no problems.

yesterday our internet went down so i turned hub off for the night as was just flashing not connected. 
today the mini wont work. Says connection to hub lost but its only ever been done via ethernet to skyQ box. We have a dish so can watch tv through sky Q box no problem just not on mini box tv.

i have turned off boxes, put back on etc with no luck. Settings on the mini doesn't say anything about wired connection.

everything i have read says no internet shouldn't make a difference if boxes are connected by Ethernet.

what has gone wrong???

Is the hub now back on and the main box connected to it ?

 

The hub does not need to be connected to the internet but the hub must be on & the  main box connected to it as it provides the ip addresses needed for the mini box & main box to communicate with each other

Hub is on but flashing orange (plusnet hub) as no internet/broadband i guess. Hopefully fixing by openreach in next few days.

our speeds were less than 1 !

but i guess i didn't think this was needed if we have a dish & ethernet connection from Q box to mini.

As I mentioned you shouldn't need the internet but you do need an active network

 

Is the main box connected to it OK (even though the internet is not availble/flakey) ?

 

Either way I suggest  you try rebooting the router and then the main box, followed by the mini

Do not worry about not having an internet connection - it just needs your network  internally to be working (i.e. Main box connect to the router & the router able to issue IP addresses)

Asks if i want to connect/retry but i know ot wont as dont have any broadband at the moment.

It wont though thats the issue.

the mini box does not connect directly but it connects via your Main box to the hub

Hi @lorri66 

When Mini boxes are connected by Ethernet you can then switch off all mini box WiFi.
carry out a Network reset on the mini with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side.
Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.

 

As soon as it connects go immediately into the mini box hidden menu and turn off WiFi.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

as football & tennis is on so dont want to risk losing any of that on main box. 
i had reatarted earlier & turned both boxes off at socket before putting post on here.

Ah ok i will have to do this mayb tomorrow. Settings just normally takes me to wifi stuff so i will try the 001
