Sky Q screen is black

Hi, 

 

While watching Sky the screen will go black but there is still sound. The only way to get the picture back is to turn the tv off and then back on again. 

I've tried doing a reset already. I also left the Sky box unplugged overnight and that seemed to help. Prior to doing this the tv had gone black about 10 times in the space of 1 hour, after unplugging it took a couple of days before the problem started happening again. 

I don't think it can be related to the HDMI cable because I still get sound. If the cable was faulty then wouldn't both sound and picture disappear? 

Can anbody recommend a fix please?

Video is about 100x the bandwidth of audio so transmitted at a far higher datarate. I reckon try another cable.

I'll try switching the cable when I can get the telly off the wall. HDMI port is in an awkward spot!

 

any idea why unplugging the sky box temporarily cures the problem? Unplugged it again last night after having the problem and it fixed it again for the evening.

Unplugging and reconnecting the HDMI cable creates a new 'handshake' between the Q box and the TV. These handshakes are basically the box telling the TV what kind of signal it's sending. 

Your cable may have an intermittent issue which a bit of waggling whilst reconnecting might temporarily cure.

I think the OP means unplugging the power rather than HDMI. Box maybe going wrong.

Yes unplugging from the mains. I managed to unplug the HDMI cable from behind the telly last night and plugged that back in again, abale at the sky box end, but it's still doing it. Have a new HDMI cable coming today to try out.

Hi @Footbacon 

See if you still have the issue if you set the Q box resolution to 1080i

It was my tv that was at fault. Had to replace it, haven't had an issue since.

Having the same issue.  I flick between sources to get picture back, it's a right pain.  It is a Samsung and Sky issue or just Sky?
