Sky Q satellite dish

I am thinking of leaving sky and getting a free sat box instead. Will this work with my Sky Q satellite dish? I can't seem to get a straight answer from the people I have spoken to about it today.

@Fiona1816

Assuming you have your own dish with a Q LNB on it, the current 'Freesat 4K' branded hardware will work (although typically needs to be left connected to dish and internet overnight for firmware updates to land).

Older Freesat kit (or Sky+ hardware used for FTA satellite reception) would need the LNB replacing.

@Fiona1816   Either, a Freesat 4K receiver or a Freesat 4K recorder, will work when fed from the existing Wideband LNB presently fitted on your Sky MiniDish.

hi @Fiona1816

if you currently have SKY Q then you have a wideband LNB on the dish.

BTW The new Freesat 4K boxes work with both the wideband LNBs and the older Universal LNBs used by SKY HD

Hi @Fiona1816   If you have Sky Q then you have a wideband LNB. Have a look at your LNB, if it only has two ports it is a wideband LNB, six ports then it is a hybrid LNB with two wideband and four standard. If it has four ports then it is an old standard LNB for Sky+ (cannot be used for Sky Q). It is no good asking Sky technical questions about LNBs, their job is to sell you something using a script (no skill required).

To be pedantic, a 4 port LNB might also be a Sky EL027 Hybrid.
