Sky Q question

Hello eveyrone,

I currently have a Sky+ HD box, so have two cables coming from my dish to the box, and a HDMI cable to connect the dish to the TV.

I would like to switch to Sky Q, but I have one limitation that I will not able to connect my box to the internet (my sky+ HD box is not connected to the internet).

Will I still be able to use it without the internet connection?

Thanks.

@Ian360  Afaik sky Q requires a connection for activation purposes after which it will work without although stuff like the extra sky sports streams now rely on internet rather than satellite so without the web you won't access this content

Re: Sky Q question

Sky Q can connect to the internet using WiFi, it doesn't need a wired connection.  Will that be a problem for you?

Re: Sky Q question

Thanks guys.

Wifi is also going to be an issue, basically in my preferred place for the box / TV etc. I have no option to run an ethernet cable currently, and it's out of reach of my wifi.

So I was hoping it could be authenticated etc. using a signal from the dish cable (just like it is now for sky HD).

Re: Sky Q question

A WiFi extender might be an option then.

@Ian360

Sky doesn't actually require a main Q box to have an internet connection: it's just that so much functionality is dependent on broadband that they want to avoid customer complaints.  Live channels arrive over the dish, and an installer should be able to carry out the initial activation from their own cellular hotspot.
