Sky Q mini boxes keep disconneting

I’ve been a Sky customer for 10 years and have been experiencing this issue for the past year. Before this, only the furthest box would disconnect, and that too once every couple of months.

However, the problem has worsened since I installed the Eufy Homesbase 3 and upgraded my cameras. This system operates on its own internal 5ghz network. The Homebase 3 connects to all the cameras using its own mesh Wi-Fi, and the Homebase 3 hub is connected to the internet via a LAN cable to an Eero.

My setup involves connecting the Sky Q box via LAN to an Eero 6. The broadband connection is via Sky on Openreach, but the Sky router is switched off and only functions as a hub for the FTTP connection.

The main box works perfectly, but the other four boxes keep disconnecting. I’ve had Sky engineers visit twice. The first time, they relocated the booster, and the second time, they replaced the hub with an older model that is supposed to be more stable.

Interestingly, now the two boxes closest to the Sky main box (10-15 meters away) also randomly lose signal.

I’m wondering if the Sky main box communicates with the mini boxes via a mesh 5GHz network that it has set up for Sky TV. Alternatively, is it running over the Eero? The first engineer informed me that it operates on its own network, while the second engineer suggested that it piggybacks off the Eero mesh network.

I’m considering purchasing an Eero 6 that has LAN access and placing it next to the mini boxes. Would connecting them via LAN through the Eero’s help?

Would anyone be able to provide a solution to this issue?

Probably, but Q's networking doesn't always play nicely with modern mesh networks.  (Wasn't even a thing when the Q was designed)

They definitely don't like connecting to a mesh node via WiFi - disconnects are normal.

By default Q to Q connectivity is via it's own mesh (5GHz 80MHz ch 36) and will not 'piggyback' another mesh.  You can turn this off from the engineer's menu (especially to force LAN).

So can I turn this off and connect every mini box via a LAN connection to a Eero. Would this work?

It did for me.  But, I found the Q's traffic upset the network* and was only resolved by going back to native Q WiFi.

* I had an issue with my car charger regularly refusing to start charging whilst Q was on the same network (Since removing it has been faultless)
