Sky Q mini box won’t connect

I've recently ordered an additional sky q mini-box, which I'm trying to connect through the  same WiFi as the main sky box, but it's in a remote location ( a barn in the garden). It does appear to be able to connect to the router, possibly because it's too far from the main box or the other mini-boxes. How do I get it to connect to the router?

Unless your broadband and router is from Sky, it won't connect wirelessly because it needs to access the Q 5ghz mesh.

Who is your broadband with?

Re: Sky Q mini box won’t connect

I have EE broadband through my business, which I think must be the problem from reading other threads. I've booked a Sky engineer to come out to sort the problem. He'll probably try to persuade me to move to Sky broadband but that can't happen. Hopefully he has other options!?? Thanks for your input BTW.

The problem is that, unless you have Sky broadband, the mini boxes will not connect to a router/hub, only the next nearest Sky Q device.

This is because the main Q box connects to a third party router (such as EE), then the mini boxes connect to a Q WiFi mesh on 5ghz generated by the main Q box (if you scan for WiFi networks, you will see a Sky one even though you are on EE).

I suspect you will need a Sky Q booster to close the gap between the nearest Sky Q device and where you want the new mini box so it can connect.
