Re: MRe: Sky Q is no longer purchasable online

Sky Go doesn't work. Period. It is flaky, locks up doing updates unless you change network connect!! True. You contact Sky and they ignore you. Last adviser searched this forum for suggestions. Are you using a VPN or changed package? Jeepers. It appears there are known problems but no timescale for fixing them.

Going away for a few days. No Sky.

Of course going online means you cannot skip adverts which are irrelevant, targetted at generations with disposable cash, insulting, depressing and offensive. (Gambling).

I find it works okay. Pity it's not HD though. Even if you have HD add on.

@Slcmpc Sky Q still receives update periodically so not been abandoned. As others have said Sko is constantly getting update whether it be Android IOS or windows in fact Sky use customers to test these updates. I go away frequently in the UK and have no problem with Sky Go work are you having problems with it in the UK or are you going abroad ?

I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer

Re: Sky Q is no longer purchasable online

According to AI 58% of Sky subscribers are subscribing to Sky Q. In that case they will need time to gradually convince so many clients to switch to stream. There is a risk that a sudden forced migration en masse could trigger a wave of 'shopping around' and exits from Sky. If they have a firm deadline in mind, they should write directly to Q customers asap and give them a fixed specific date in the future, versus rumours of deadlines vs extensions.

hi @GardenZen

Personally I wouldn't rely too much on AI, especially for what might be considered commercially sensitive data

As per my previous posts, we are still a few years away from the Satellite running out of fuel and, thus, at this time no need for any information given to existing customers.

There will be, as there already is, a natural migration from SKY Q to SKY Stream or other providers as people move home, get faster broadband or seek better deals etc.

Of course in a couple of years, nearer the time there will be a need for a clear migration from the use of the Satellites but, as I say, I don't think that time is yet

Edit : P.S. SKY did write to SKY SD only boxes customers in plenty of time about the migration of  the SD channels to DVB-S2 transmission rendering those old boxes useless. In addition they used on box messaging as the time drew closer.

Re: Sky Q is no longer purchasable online

Sky Go does have a big problem. This has been confirmed by Sky staff. The issues have been referred to their App department but there is no timescale for a fix. The size of the problem is significant judging by what I was told when on the phone but Sky's reluctance to resolve it may well be due to the fact that resources are being directed to Sky Glass and Sky streaming services.

Sky Go works for some but something triggers the problem. Some suggest subscription changes but for me we have neither changed our subscriptions nor have we changed our hardware or device configurations - on Android and Microsoft devices.

I don't want to go the streaming route unless I have to but I need Sky Go to work in the interim period.

@Slcmpc

Realistically the current version of Go is the legacy relative of a legacy platform, both of which pre-date Comcast ownership and the arrival of Glass & Stream.  Personally I suspect it will be replaced by a re-skinned Comcast app sometime fairly soon as part of the transition to their infrastructure.

Having said that, it works adequately for me on both Windows PC and Fire tablet.

Sky Go works well for me too. I have it on my desktop PC and on my Apple TV 4K box. I quite often use it to browse things to watch later on my Stream pucks, or just have Sky News on on my second monitor. I actually use it to browse on the Apple box too and often just end up watching programmes on there too as I prefer the interface of Sky Go on Apple to the Sky Stream interface on the stream puck! I don't really mind that it's not full HD - one of my TVs is quite small anyway so the resolution doesn't matter.

Re: Sky Q is no longer purchasable online

I would never have Sky Stream. If I have to give up Sky Q and Freeview is still going I'll buy a Freeview PVR for recording the main terrestrial channels and I'll subscribe to Now TV for everything else. The only reason I still am a Sky customer is because of Sky Q anyway. I accept I pay for the privilege but no other PVR comes close to it.

Indeed - thanks for the reminder, those SD channels moved from DVB-S to DVB-S2 transmission. All still working perfectly fine (just not on pre-HD boxes which can't decode that type of signal). None of those SD channels have been "shut down" or "switched off" 🙂

I suppose if it's like Netflix or similar I could wait till it's uploaded then watched at a time that's convenient for me but it's still a long way off yet

if you find yourself waiting for a particular streamer to get the rights - many cycle between Netflix, Amazon ,etc - then I highly recommend JustWatch (https://www.justwatch.com/uk) . You can set alerts for the title you're waiting for too.

HTH
