Sky Q - cable issue somewhere - help!

Our box stopped working.

Just had Sky engineer over, checked dish, swapped out box but could not get it to work.

Said the wire (that runs through the guts of house) might be broken somewhere and need to either get Sky Streaming or run a new cable.

Just wondering if community had any other ideas? Streaming doesnt seem as good as Q but perhaps might be the best option.

Hi @monkeydust2

If the cable is broken then the engineer has given you all the options.

Thanks - i just wanted to exhaust all ideas.

Fixing the cable might be near on impossible, running another one not that pretty so thinking about sky streaming. Does anyone know if streaming supports UHD for F1 Sports?

@monkeydust2   Sky Q would have required two coaxial cables from its Wideband LNB to the Sky Q receiver when configured to be in the default Wideband LNB mode.

If one of these two coaxial cables is still undamaged then you would have an option to employ a local satellite specialist engineer to connect the two coaxial cables that emerge from the satellite dish Wideband LNB to a suitable dSCR multiswitch, housed in an external weatherproof box, and then use the undamaged coaxial cable to feed a Single Cable Router (SCR) signal through your house to your Sky Q receiver configured to be using SCR LNB mode.

But, bear in mind that this solution would be likely to cost you between £300-£400.

An alternative slightly cheaper option would be to change the Wideband LNB on your satellite dish for a  Legacy Universal LNB and run two more coaxial cables down to an external waterproof box to provide the 4 Legacy universal LNB inputs that a Unitron dCSS-422 adaptor requires to then provide a Single Cable Router output through the working coaxial cable to your Sky Q receiver, this option would probably cost around £200-£300.

Godfrey.

Yes it does @monkeydust2

On all boxes (pucks) as well.

Everything available in UHD on Q is on Stream

Re: Sky Q - cable issue somewhere - help!

Ok, maybe I found the issue.

I went to the loft and there was a broken connection.

https://ibb.co/VqWBM5d

"A" is the wiring that goes through the house to the Sky Q box

"B" is the wire to the dish.

Now i dont have the right connectors to fix so i manually touched the copper of A to B but was still getting satelite not found error on Sky Q box.

Seems to much of a coincidence so is it perhaps the fact that I need to connect properly and hopefully this is sorted?

Appreciate the help

Hi @monkeydust2

mmm.

You certainly have a lot of connections on the cables.
If the cables A and B are as you say then yes you can get Screw on F connectors readily available on line.  Suggest you replace A and B

There are different diameters ones available but I think the following will suffice.

Just Google

Ross SATCK3-RO F Type Connector Kit, Chrome

There are also videos on YouTube showing how to fit

Yea its a bit messy but has been working since we brought the house.

The puzzling this was when i manually held the two connectors together (so the copper parts were touching) it didnt seem to fix the issue.

Hi @monkeydust2

Possibly not a good connection and too much interference.

Best to make a proper connection

If you just connected the hard central copper core then that alone will not be sufficient to make a connection.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own

Right I see thanks.

Ordered the connector suggested above.

@monkeydust2   If this is the first time that you have fitted a 'screw on' F connector onto WF100 / CT100 coaxial cable, this is how I would prepare the coaxial cable.

Cable preperation:                           Fold back outer screen and tear off the inner foil

F connector prep 1.jpg

Then twist the F connector onto the prepared cable;

F connector prep 3.jpg

Finally, it should end up looking like this;

F connector prep 4.jpg

Re: Sky Q - cable issue somewhere - help!

Fixed the cable now the Satellite signal says 'unlocked' - strenght / quality = 0 and lnb = wideband (not in communal share)

Any ideas please?

Looks like you haven't found the root of your problem @monkeydust2

You could try an independent Satellite installer to investigate the problem further.

Re: Sky Q - cable issue somewhere - help!

Is there anyway for me to text the coaxial connection between two wires is good or not?
