Sky Q box keeps disconnecting from the internet

Every time I turn my Sky Q box on from standby, I have to re-connect to my broadband router. Every other device in the house is fine

Hi @Jorgybear 

Have you exactly completed the following?

First reset your broadband router.
If on Sky broadband hold the Reset on the back of the router until the power light flashes green (about 10 seconds). Don't unplug or switch off your router while it resets. The power light will go green when it's done.
If on 3rd party broadband and your router does not have a reset button, reboot it by disconnecting the power lead for 30 secs and then reconnecting.
Wait until the router is completely back and running and then try a Network Reset found in Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Follow instructions to connect by WiFi to your router. Even if reset is not listed there is still an option to connect by WiFi to Sky or 3rd party router.
If you are on Sky Broadband you will be asked to press the WPS button on the Sky router. (Not on the Q box as the Network reset will start the main Q box WPS automatically). Make sure you press the WPS button on the Sky router and not the reset button.
If you are on Sky Broadband with the new Sky Max router then you need to connect it as if it is a 3rd party router.
If you are on 3rd party (non Sky ) broadband then you need to enter the SSID and password for the router 2.4 Ghz WiFi band.

My broadband isn't with Sky, I should probably have said that in my original post. 
as all other devices in the house work, I don't see how resetting the router would help (I reckon the problem has to be with the Sky box), but I'll try it.

Mine is doing the same, I have to connect Q box to WiFi every day for past few days. I'm with Vodafone broadband. 

every day I reset and connect. Getting fed up with it now

Mine does the same too, sometimes disconnecting twice in a day. Not with sky broadband either. It's very frustrating considering getting rid of sky.

One thing worth trying is separating your 2.4 and 5 GHz wifi bands into different SSIDs and specifically connecting the Q to the 2.4

 

you need to do this on the router admin page.

Have tried everything suggested here but only thing that works for me is to switch off at the mains for a while and then switch back on. It always picks up wi fi after that obviously if you reset it in network settings it will work but when you have  long complicated password it's a pain in the neck.

Have you turned off eco mode on the Q box to make sure it's not that that's disconnecting from the WiFi at night?

  • Turning standby mode from eco to active seems to have worked for me 🙂
