Sky Q and BBC

On my Sky Q box. Channel 101 is now the local BBC 1 HD channel,  in my case BBC 1 London HD. This change happened a few weeks ago.

However when I go into Freeview. Channel  101, it is still showing the national BBC 1 HD channel.

Yes the BBC are rolling out differently on different platforms (i.e. later on Freeview) - I am afraid I haven't searched for any links to give any specific dates

Re: Sky Q and BBC

It should be HD on Freeview within the next month.

Thank you all for your replies.

TimmyBGood. That link you kindly provided, sums up modern day life for someone like me.

I found the article to be so very long and so very complicated, It just went on and on.
If I am correct. Freeview will have channel 101 showing regional BBC HD channels,  in my case BBC 1, Londonn HD, very shortly just like it is showing on Sky Q. I assume this will happen automatically and I will not have to reset my rather old smart television.

Freeview transmitters don't have the capacity for as many multiple channels as Satellite TV - each transmitter is used for it's local channels.

Thus when they switch 101 to be regional it will just be a matter of what feed they send to the transmitter for 101 and extremely unlikely to be a channel frequency change

Very few Freview channel changes have actuallly required a manual initiation to get the channels -some TVs wil change automatically with possibly a message to say they have done, others just come up with a message saying new channels found & ask to proceed.

In the last couple of years or so probably all Freeview Transmitters have moved many channels around to free up the higher end channels for 5G use .

So even if you need to intervene it will be no different to the periodic changes you will have had. - but it is likely to be seemless for you.

As @nigea99 indicates, some Freeview televisions and set top boxes may need a 're-tune'.  Sky have the advantage of being able to 'push' changes to their own hardware.

Re: Sky Q and BBC

Hopefully I will not have to do anything' with my smart television, and the change to the local BBC 1,London HD on channel 101 will happen automatically.

It would be helpful,  that if anyone living in the London area gets this change that they notify us on this thread.

Suspect anyone who does have useful info won't spot it because it's titled Sky Q, not Freeview.

Re: Sky Q and BBC

Just got a message on my freeview..

Aerial connection will be updated in my area tomorrow and I may have to retune my television.

I assume this is  to do with channel 101  going to BBC regional, in my case BBC 1 London HD, as of course it is now the case when I am watching television through my Sky Q box.

I now have to work out how to retune my television.

Life is rather complicated..
