Sky Q and ASUS AiMesh

Hi All,

I recently upgraded home wifi network (from a single old BT Home Hub 2) to an ASUS AiMesh home network. The AiMesh nodes are connected throughout house via Ethernet backbone and are broadcasting a combined 2.4&5Mhz wireless signal.

All working great for wired and wireless devices, better performance, less lag, better coverage etc etc until we get into the Sky and Sky Q boxes...

The main Sky Q box in lounge is connected to the master ASUS mesh router via WiFi (as the Sky Q main box is not near the downstairs router to connect via Ethernet). 

One Sky Q Mini box is connected via Ethernet (as it's next to one of the ASUS AiMesh routers) and the other Sky Q Mini boxes are connected wirelessly. 

I'm having issues already with various Q Mini's dropping out, and the one Mini connected via Ethernet struggled to form a connection to master Sky Q box.  

I've tried turning off the Sky mesh (via the engineers menu) thinking the boxes would use the AiMesh, but this doesn't help. I've needed to restart the connectivity wizard to get the Sky boxes back online but this reactivates the Sky mesh. I also had to remove the Ethernet cable (between the one Sky mini box and my ASUS router to get it back online), so all Sky boxes are now using the Sky mesh to connect/talk to each other but I'm experiencing dropouts.

I suspect this is because the ASUS AiMesh and Sky Q mesh are conflicting, and Sky Q *NEEDS* it's Sky mesh network... 

any recommendations please to improve connectivity and stability for Sky? If Sky mesh needs to remain on - alongside the ASUS AiMesh - then please help to confirm what changes I can make to either so they can operate in harmony!

hi @Tld2004 

When your home wifi is not SKY (or even the newer SKY max routers) then the SKY minis will not use you home wifi - instead rely on a wifi mesh generated from the main box.

If connecting them via ethernet (which is often better) then either the ethernet connection must be to the main box or  both the main & mini connected via ethernet (so the main box must also be connected via ethernet)

Unfortunately, not all the Sky mini's can connect to Ethernet (as I use Powerline for CCTV connectivity only), but I *could* potentially get Ethernet to the main Sky Q box. 

would just wiring the main Sky Q box help if the other Mini's use wifi? 

or would it be better to let all Sky boxes use the Sky Mesh and I then focus on making changes to the ASUS AiMesh WiFi for all the other devices in the house, i.e. splitting 2.4ghz and 5ghz etc? Is that a better approach? If so, what WiFi changes do you recommend?
