Got an engineer coming out later this week to try and fix or upgrade my Q box. I will see how it goes but my last monthly bill with Sky was over £130. I expect better quality than this for that kind of outlay so we will see

For the less tech savvy among us, does changing the DNS affect anything else? Will this need to be changed back at some point when Sky/Virgin find a solution?
At work at the moment but hoping to just change the DNS and sort the issue later on.

FYI thanks for the DNS option.
I was on with sky for 50 mins, went through everything I did last night. They then stated to call Virgin as there was nothing wrong with the Sky box.
Saw the DNS option and tried it, worked!!

Virgin Media DNS has been having problems for sometime this compared with know flaws in superhub middle ware makes it a nightmare I changed all my equipment to us another public DNS provider. (My Sky boxes are connected by Ethernet cables btw) lots of for over on the VM forums about WiFi and DNS problem which they have no intrest in solving. Maybe have. Look at their digital conversion and backup line failures too while your there.

No. Internet (as opposed to within an organsation's private datacentre) DNS is a global service with local replicas hosted by various bodies, notably ISPs.
In theory it doesn't matter which one you use, you (or more accurately the app / device you're using) should get the same answer for every lookup of a hostname to get its IP address.
Using 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 (Google's version) will work just as well as using your own ISP's - which your router will default to - and sometimes better if your ISP has issues.

@ericabercrombie wrote:I've had Sky for about 25 years or so and my Sky Q box was installed about a year after they came out. This is the first issue I've had with Sky Q and I only discovered it very late last night. So after resetting the Sky box and the Virgin Media router (4 times now) I started googling to see if anyone else had similar issues.......so here we are.
Oh I see!! You meant before you contact Sky about your own (same) issue - sorry, I thought you meant contacting them about the issue on behalf of the person you were replying to 😆

Hi
I'm in Renfrewshire just beside Glasgow and my Sky Q box stopped talking to my Virgin media router around 24hrs ago, did the same as most folks on here unplugging both etc even tried new ethernet cable and nothing.
Just phoned Sky to be told they're aware there's a problem they're trying to fix it...no idea when it'll be fixed and no comment on compensation eg a free movie or something for the inconvenience.
Seemed the guy just couldn't be bothered suggested them emailing/texting customers in future as I hurt myself dragging tv stuff about trying connections.
Fingers crossed folks it will be running soon.

I've had this issue on and off for months, nothing solves it that I and Sky have tried. I was told that the fault was first flagged in March this year and was working on being solved... 6 months later still happens for me (tried the settings everyone is mentioning, works for a while then back to same problem)
