Sky Q Mini box - internet connection

Hi

I have a Sky Q box in my living room and a Q Mini box in my kitchen. I've relied on Wifi to connect the two before but the kitchen reception (particularly on ITV for some reason) is glitchy and probably at 90% quality or so. I assume the issue is Wifi related as i can watch ITV and all channels fine in the living room where the main box is. 

 

We also have the Q Mini connected directly to the router via ethernet cable but i don't think it's 'active'. i tried the 0 0 1 trick but it says it cannot find an IP address? No IP Address Obtained. 

 

I know the ethernet works corectly beacuse when i plug it in to the TV direct (rather than the router), i can watch all channels perfectly on ITV X, BBC iplayer etc

Hi @joshp1 

Who is your broadband supplier ?

If it is Sky you can connect the mini to your Router by Ethernet.  However if you are 3rd party broadband you need al boxes on Ethernet connected to the router .  Alternatively if the main Q box is on WiF you could connect the mini by Ethernet to that

Ok then @joshp1 

 

First reset your broadband router by holding Reset on the back until the power light flashes green (about 10 seconds). Don't unplug or switch off your router while it resets. The power light will go green when it's done.

Then with  the Ethernet connected carry out a Network reset on the mini

Network Reset found in mini box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side.   Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the mini to connect.  It may take a couple of minutes

Thanks for the quick response . I can go

network

but then I just have 3 options to test (Sky broadband Wi-Fi vs Wi-Fi from another provider vs connect via wired connection)

 

no option to reset?

Connect via wired connection @joshp1 

Do not do any WPS and just wait for it to connect.

Ethernet connection to router Should be foolproof.

You said earlier

Did you reset the TV set to wired connection (instead of WiFi)?

Yep , on the smart TV I turned off Wi-Fi and relied purely on the Ethernet before as that was my way to test. let me try it out again tomorrow to proof

Ok @joshp1 

Don't you have to configure the smart TV to use Wired  instead of WiFi?
