Re: Sky Q Mini Boxes won’t connect !’

I am also having this problem since yesterday morning.  My mini box will not connect the the main box.  I have done everything mentioned in this chat ie resetting, checking software update,  switching boxes and routers on and off in the correct order and required length of time but the mini box will not connect to the main box.   I do have a third party broadband provider but all devices in the house are connecting to this with no problems.  I also have the sky booster box to help with the sky q connections.   I feel I have tried everything now and am slowly going demented.  Any help appreciated.

Mine came back this morning, without me having done anything. So it has to be the Q main box or a Sky based error.

They may well be off again when I get home tomorrow.

The only thing left I can suggest is to try running a cable from your router to the main Q box if that doesn't work then if that doesn't work, you will have to use Sky customer service and tell them, before they start going through their script, that you have done X.Y.Z as per the forum.

As of last night, we are also encountering the - no internet detected issue.

Both the main SkyQ box and the SkyQ Mini box do not have internet connection.

We Have switched off the router AND the sky box's, waited a couple minutes, restarted the router and waited for it to boot up and all, then booted up the main skyQ box, same thing router detected, internet is not. I have reset it and still nothing, yet Alexa, computers and other peripheals all detect the internet, ONLY SKYQ does NOT.

Its always giving issues every since they started to move over to internet streaming only. It MUST be the recent update, yes we have had constant issues with this for months but not with the main SKYQ box only the min ones where a simply switch off and reboot fixed the issue (either mini had to be restarted or both main and mini to get them both working again) but this time nothing works to get internet connection with them. VERY ANNOYED

There's no doubt that the last software version (it's difficult to call it an update) has caused issues, although if people also have the Sky Max Hub that's possibly just compounding the problems due to it's seemingly weedy wifi performance.

I would encourage everybody to research their own wifi mesh system (I wouldn't pay Sky for the privilege of renting theirs). Amazon Prime day is coming up but you can already buy a pair of TP-Link extenders for under a £100 and trios for around £130 (they come in various capabilities). Plug one extender in via ethernet cable to the Sky Hub (disable the Sky Hub & possibly Sky Q wifi) and if possible wire the main Q box to it. Plug the other(s) in where suitable (again if possible, hard wire the mini boxes) and enjoy a less stressful life going forward.

Just a thought rather than a solution: have you tried temporarily running an Ethernet cable from the router directly to the main Sky Q box and then performing a complete shutdown sequence?

Turn everything off at the mains (router, main box and Mini boxes), leave them off for a couple of minutes, then:

1. Start the router and wait until it is fully up.
2. Start the main Sky Q box and make sure it is working.
3. Finally, start the Mini box(es) one at a time.

I'm not suggesting this is the answer, but it may help establish whether the problem lies with the wireless connection or something else. Given the number of similar reports appearing, it would be useful to know whether a hard-wired main box makes any difference, as it did for me.

Running an ethernet cable from my router to my sky q box is not possible for me.    My mini box started working again yesterday morning randomly but is freezing constantly and its not possible to watch any programme in its entirety.   I already had a mesh system in place before I changed to sky q a few months ago.  The sky engineer also installed the sky booster box to my router.  There are no problems with watching prime or netflix or using ipads.

New customer, needed a Booster unit at the start and can't use the mini box. Make it a Sky problem because you are paying for something you can't use properly.  Tell them at the beginning that you have been on the forum and have done everything from switching it on and off repeatedly to trying to fix it.  I have said this more than once: if you don't, they will have you going through their whole script.

Re: Sky Q Mini Boxes won’t connect !’

Just a quick update, it started to work at 7am, main box from teh start, skyQ mini extra box had to be rebooted (it had router and internet dected BUT it no longer detected a connection between it and teh main skyQ box (usual issue most times) and that requires the box to be turned off for 30-60 seconds then rebooted and it will either 1 come up and ask questions and you spend another 6 minutes or so setting it up or will boot up and work right off.

Now how long it will i dont know, could do this for 2 days then be fine for 2 weeks before throwing a barny again for 2-3 days then work for a week. What gets me is both box's were saying no internet connection detected turn off router and reset it, did that twice evn though every other appliance was working with the internet so that has me at a total loss.

Been there, done that. So, my outcome was this after doing all that was posted here. I rang Sky customer service and told them I'd done everything advised on the forum, so it would be a waste of our time to go through the usual list.  An engineer came out I ended up with a new box. After he checked the deleted section of my former recordings, which he said had been a problem on some boxes, he didn't find any. I got a new box, connected it via an Ethernet cable, and 🤞 I haven't had any problems other than what seem to be constant updates that need to be done. I normally pick up on this requirement because the TV guide has programmes missing.  Well, this was what I ended up doing to solve this issue.

Re: Sky Q Mini Boxes won’t connect !’

I finally got through to somebody on sky yesterday evening after holding for 40  minutes.  I told him I had done everything so the only extra thing he asked me to do was to check the recordings on the main sky q box because if that is too full it can cause issues.   There was no issue there because we had only upgraded to sky q from hd in April and don't record anything.  End result an Engineer will be coming on Tuesday so we will see what they have to say.

New box would probably have been the outcome for me too.

I gave up though and just switched over to Stream on Friday, as I was worried that the new box would eventually go the same way.

Very similar situation.  Had 2 engineers out, both told me it was fixed...first one we had to call back as he got in his van, because it had already broken 2 mins after he walked out of the door. Second visit had the system working for 2 hours before same problem.

Raised an official complaint and literally one minute later received an email saying that they had tried to get hold of me (they hadn't) and they were looking to close down my case unless I responded.

Re: Sky Q Mini Boxes won’t connect !’

I've been having this problem for sometime. To resolve I updated my wireless connection to the main router. Including re-entering on password etc. Even if you have a hard wired connection this is essential. Completely reboot the main sky box. Remove all power, wait for a minute or so. Connect power and go through the whole reboot. Go to the nearest mini q box and reboot ie remove power etc. Go through the on screen instructions. Press the wps on the main box and the mini will connect with the main q box.

It was essentiall that the main Q box is connected via the most up to date wifi password etc. Otherwise you're going no where.

Hope that makes sense.
