Sky Q Mini Box Connection

I have Sky Q along with 4 mini boxes

It's got to a stage now where nearly every time I switch on one of the 4 mini boxes you can hear sound from a programme but it says connecting to Sky Q box. I have to reboot the box each time to make it work. Had Sky Q from the beginning but this is the worst it's ever been

Any suggestions welcome, Cheers

Hi @KezzaRed

Try resetting the connection.

First try rebooting the main Q box and then when this is completely back up and running reboot the minis.
To reboot press Standby on your Sky Q remote (if the box responds to the remote), and then switch off and unplug at the mains.
Wait at least 30 secs and then Plug back in and switch your Sky Q box back on at the mains.
Wait for the on screen instructions to disappear and the front led to turn Amber. Then wait for 30 secs before you press Home on your Sky Q remote or if this is not working press the standby button on the front of the Q box (Amber led)

note: some features may take up to 5 minutes to return.

Reboot the minis as above.
If the mini still does not connect try a Network Reset on the minis. Start with the one nearest to the main Q box
Network Reset found in mini Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Follow instructions to WPS with main Q box.
You will be asked to press the WPS button on the main Q box (not the mini as the Network reset will start the mini WPS automatically).

If you are on Sky Broadband and the Router is nearer to the mini than the main box then you can try pressing WPS on the router instead of the main Q box. If you do this make sure you press the Sky router WPS button and not the router reset button. If you get the first mini connected then for other minis use WPS on the nearest Q device (main Q box or Sky Router if on Sky Broadband or previously connected mini).

Failing all of the above you may need a Sky Q WiFi Booster to position midway between your main Q box and the mini and you will need to contact Sky directly.

Re: Sky Q Mini Box Connection

Cheers for that, I do so if that on a regular basis unfortunately, too many times to keep count 🙄

I don't need or want a Sky Booster either as I have a WiFi 7 router along with 2 WiFi 6 mesh routers, very much overkill to deal with 60gb movie files

hi @KezzaRed
Perhaps you can explain then what each mini is connected to when you carry out a Network reset on each.

Edit I see you edited your post

Your mesh routers are no help in connecting Q mins

Re: Sky Q Mini Box Connection

The mini's don't connect to the mesh they are on static ip's and bound to the main router. They've not really been a problem just more recently and to be fair don't get used that much these days, it's just annoying

Re: Sky Q Mini Box Connection

No I've been on BT for 4 years and have Asus WiFi 6/7 routers. Like I say not been an issue until more recently and to be fair get the same issues I used to get when I did have a Sky router, noticed no difference at all

Just for info they are on static ip's for Home Assistant

Mmm.  You should be aware @KezzaRed

If using WiFi Sky Q minis will not connect reliably to anything other than the Sky Q mesh.

They will not connect to 3rd party WiFi or 3rd Party WiFi extenders.

The only way to connect Minis to non Sky devices is to have all Q boxes including the main box connected by Ethernet to the same Network devices.

Other then the advice in my first post I cannot help.

Re: Sky Q Mini Box Connection

Spoiler
Yeh thanks for your thoughts and ideas

I've not seen any differences at all whether I've had Sky router/broadband to what I have now. The issues I've had over the years have been the same on both setups. I have had an engineer test it while I've not been on Sky Broadband/router, separate issue, and he said it was working perfect

Like I said just annoying on the odd occasion it gets used
