Sky Q Connectivity issues

I know there are many posts on here already about connectivity issues with Sky Q, but heres my issue. I have a 2TB main Sky Q box and 1 mini box. My broadband is with Virgin Media. Up until about 3 or 4 months ago I had no connectivity issues at all. Now, when I turn the TV and Sky Q box on, I get a message saying "You dont appear to be connected to the internet at the moment". However, if I go into settings and look at the Network connection status, its ticks across the board, and none of my other devices are having any connectivity issues. I currently have the Q box connected to my router via ethernet, out of interest I tried connecting via wifi, but the problem persisted. i spoke to Sky and got them to send me a new Sky Q box, but its doing the same thing on both hard wired and wifi connection. I have the eco mode switched to "None", no difference. Ive been through all the reset procedures, and yes they DO get the Q box to connect for a day, maybe 2, but theyre quite time consuming. Ive found the easiest and quickest way to re establish connectivity is just to pull the ethernet connection from the back of the Q box for a few seconds, then replace it, and connectivity is restored. By the way, I am using an internet switch between my Virgin router and the Q box. This also supplies connection to my TV and an Apple TV+ box, which as I said before are having no issues.

Hi @jry

Unfortunately if you have a Q mini on WiFi then you cannot get the best of the Ethernet connection to your main Q box.  Ideally on Ethernet it's best to turn off the main Q box WiFi but unless you can also get the mini on an Ethernet connection then the Main box WiFi must be on.

Best to use a Network reset on the main Q box to connect with Ethernet.

On the main Q box and first carry out a Network reset with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Select connect wired to non Sky Router.

Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.

Thanks for the reply #Oldfella

I appreciate the mini box wifi/ethernet issue. Dont see however how that would cause the main Q box to say it doesnt have an internet connection, when in settings it clearly shows that it has. Interestingly, when the Main Q box is telling me it hasnt got an internet connection, the mini box is working fine. kind of wierd.

Re: Sky Q Connectivity issues

Yes and no. I can get the main Q box to recognise that it does actually have an Internet connection by using your reset method. If however as a result of the reset I then need to reset my mini box, that generally needs me to push the ups buttons.

Re: Sky Q Connectivity issues

You can try all the tricks across this forum and eventually SkyQ will disconnect again, had the same issue for months regular disconnect requiring rejoining network on both Q and mini. Have VM 250 broadband and a mesh system every single wifi based product from various manufacturers works perfectly well and stay connected as did SkyQ until this year so it's clearly a Sky issue that's being ignored.

Unfortunately it's August 2026 before I can escape due to their 24 months bull after renegotiating contract.

And I don't need to be told use Ethernet/Homeplugs it's supposed to work on WiFi as well.

Re: Sky Q Connectivity issues

Is this problem exclusive to Sky Q, or does it affect the other platforms like Stream and Glass?
