Feel like we've been duped. I'm a sky customer for over 10 years. Currently we now only have Sky Q, Netflix and Broadband and pay £85.00 per month after coming out of contract and having even less a package for more money then we had before (no Cinema or Sports). When Sky Q was introduced we were offered so many good deals, in order to have it they insisted that we needed fibre (previous was through dish), so we got it installed. The engineer cut our dish wires so this can no longer be used.
We want to come away from sky and cannot use Freesat because no dish and only have fibre.
I'm useless at this sort of thing and it's all so confusing. I'm so dissapointed with Sky now that they are not the company they used to be. They are currently offering to new customers the same as what I have plus Sports for only £35.00 per month for 18 month contract. There were no deals offered when we were coming out of contract, even after asking them over the phone.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreSky Q reception is via your satellite dish (except if you live in, for example, a flat which is connected to a communal system) so I'm confused by your post.

Are you sure you have Sky Q?? If the cables to your dish were cut then you will most certainly not have Sky Q as it relies entirely on a satellite connection to function and has no need for fibre, just a basic broadband connection is useful for downloading on demand content, but it is not a requirement.
Were you perhaps talked into taking Sky Stream which relies entirely on a broadband connection to function?
Check your Sky account to find out exactly what service you are signed up to. It would perhaps be worthwhile ringing Sky and requesting some clarity. If you would prefer Sky Q then you can have Sky Q. An engineer would need to visit to re-install cabling if it has been cut, but there is nothing stopping you having it, fibre broadband or no fibre broadband.

That's what is happening these days. Most, if not all providers do this now. From recent posts on here it does seem that decent deals are increasingly hard to find. If you choose to leave the same will happen at the end of your discounted deal with whoever you go with. Once you've been away for 18 months you'll be able to rejoin and benefit from new customer discounts.

It's sort of like a tax on convenience now. Having 'everything' in one place, from one box, controlled by one service provider, is now the more expensive option, but most customers are happy to pay for convenience.
The streaming TV landscape is thankfully much wider and more versatile than the satellite service ever was. You can now run a full streaming TV service from alternative hardware, independent of the service provider, and manage your own individual services with ease.
