Sky Glass

Good morning, everyone. I'm thinking about Sky Glass, but I'm uncertain about how to connect the TV through my AVR 7.2 channel surround sound system. Could anyone assist me with this issue? Is it possible to connect Sky Glass through my AVR system? Currently, I have Sky Q, and everything is working well, but I'm considering the new Sky Glass. I've heard both negative and positive reviews about it. Would you recommend it?

Thanks James

How is your AVR connected to your Sky Q box? Glass has an eARC compatible HDMI socket so you should be able to connect via that.

My question, though, would be do you actually need a new TV? Glass is a medium spec several years old design, and you could do better for the same cost. I have Glass as  a secondary,  dining room TV, where it does the job, but my main, living room TV is a better spec Panasonic tv connected via a streaming Puck and performs considerably better.

hi @Parkie79

SKY Glass TVs were intoduced a few years ago now before the stand alone SKY Stream so, at that time, was the only way to switch to streaming of SKY TV.

Evan  at that time I am not sure how well they really compared to other TVs of similar prices.

Today they are, in TV terms, old

As @Mark39 says I think you would be better advised to look at other more recent TVs and if you want to switch to streaming go down the SKY Stream route - that way your TV is not tied in with SKY & you are far likely to get a better TV

Don't be pressured by SKY marketing

Re: Sky Glass

Thank you for your response; I really appreciate it. I've reached the end of my contract and was being overcharged, so I'm considering my options with Sky. I always thought that their TV Glass service would be a good choice. I'm glad I discussed it here because now I realize that it might not be the best option, especially if the TV isn't up to standard plus the spec is old. I think I'll check the Samsung website to see what offers they have. Unless you can suggest other brands that are superior, Would you recommend sticking with the Q series or the Puck?

Re: Sky Glass

Sky pressured me to sign up for a 48-month contract for a package I was already subscribed to at £42 a month. However, the new contract included ads on my Netflix {which i dont have now} and required separate payment for the Paramount channel, raising the monthly cost to £56. I declined the offer, but a week later, I received another call inquiring if I had reconsidered the previously discussed offer.

That does sound very miuch like a push to get Glass

SKY's subscriptions are not for 48 months but the 'finance' on the TV could, I guess, be 48 months

I am not sure if agents are incevntivised to push SKY Glass or not.

Regarding your other options - Samsung are popular and have a good range of TVs but I would suggest you do research as being such a wide range some may dissapoint I am not sure if they have an OLED Tvs -  I haven't researched but they do m,arket their own QLED which are not the same as OLED

Of course, there are other popular brands & I think LG is one of the major ones - they have several OLEDs (& indeed manufacture the OLED panels used by other manufacturers - e.g. ony & Panasonic). Personally I have had Pansonic for many years but I think they are generally dearer.

OLED Tvs, may however, be outide of your budget

Regarding SKY Stream - it is quite a different product & you need good internet. It uses Playlists instead of physical recording etc.

Probably worth doing more research.

You are more likely to get deals on Stream vs Q

Re: Sky Glass

I have Samsung's Flagship 65'' NEO QLED in the dining room, which I think is an okay TV. I know there are a lot of tech buffs here who might direct me to a better one. Yes, my mistake, the 48-month term was for the Glass TV deal. I was discussing upgrades when they mentioned it and offered it to me at that price.

I will check the Sky website now to see if there are any deals. I have the link to the friends and family deals, but it's just for streaming at the moment.
