Sky Engineers will not able to implement cables into your home (hidden costs) BE AWARE

Anyone else encountered a sky engineer's inability to implement a simple cable into our homes to support SkyQ - where the sky router is unable to supply a WIFI to support SKYQ from Wifi?.  Definite news to me when I agreed to move from Sky plus to SkyQ (Sky Plus is being decommissioned).  I have been asked by the Sky engineer to arrange for my own "capable" independent engineer to implement a simple cable into my home at a cost of around £150 because he is "not allow to implement the cable".  I will then have to wait another 2 weeks for the next sky engineer to revisit and perform the SkyQ implementation.  I have been we sky for 21 years (sky plus) and was forced to move to SkyQ because Sky plus is being stopped.  The product is a Sky product but super qualified Sky engineers cannot implement their own product.  It is lake going to hairdresser and the hairdresser is not able to wash your hair .... unbelievable !!!.  Sky is selling a product with hidden costs that you may incur .  Please be aware everyone !!!.

Do you mean an ethernet cable to connect the Sky Q box to your router? I doubt a standard installation would include running an ethernet cable around skirting boards or drilling holes in walls, the expectation being that a wifi connection should be adequate.

Others may comment on the need to move from Sky+ (You probably didn't have to, but does have some risk in not).

If you are referring to an ethernet connection then Sky, to my knowledge, have never installed this as part of a standard install.  (Which will include a dish/LNB and drilling through external wall for satellite feeds).

When we originally implemented Sky many years ago a sky engineer was able to fully implement their product and supporting products (cables) the ensure product worked from the sky receiver (disk) where cables where required they implemented to ensure their product was functioning in accordance with their set-up requirements.  The sky engineer yesterday informed me that the WIFI for my mother-in-law's SKYQ box was not strong enough and the only option was to implement a cable direct to the back to the SKYQ box.  I asked if Sky could provide amplifiers to extend the strength of the WIFI but the engineer said no, the only option is to implement a cable and he is not allowed to install one.  I have to find an independent engineer (at my own cost) to install a cable then recall the sky engineer in a couple of weeks.

Sky would have installed cables from your dish to your Sky+ box just as they will install cables from your dish to your Sky Q box.

They did not install an ethernet cable for your Sky+ box.

Power line adaptors are a possible alternative to an ethernet cable.

It's very unclear from your post exactly what cables you are referring to. When changing from Sky+HD to Sky Q, the engineer replaces the LNB (the arm) on the dish and swaps the box. Everything else (as long as it's in good condition) stays the same. 

The only caveat being if the dish was originally installed in a position that is now deemed unsuitable, due to changes in Health and Safety guidelines.

Are you able to explain what the engineer was unable to do?

I would (and do) just use powerlines. A lot cleaner than ethernet (unless you go to the effort of routing that behind stud walls / ceilings) and they usually work in most houses. Cheaper than £150 too.

Odd that he wouldn't install a Q booster, they certainly have done in the past but cables are more reliable anyway.
