Sky - Best pricing available

Hi all,

I'm cancelling my Sky contract as I'm now end of contract and the price rises over the last couple of years have been crazy, particularly since much of the content that once would have been part of the packages has moved over to streaming apps.

I tried to negotiate the prices down, but got nowhere so I thought it would be interesting to compare pricing with others to see if we can definitively establish what a good deal looks like so here goes. Can anyone top the following

Sky Signature  - £25.00

Ultimate TV Pack - £5.50

Netflix Premium - £9.49

Sky Kids - £4.00

Sky Sports Complete Inc Sky Sports - £9.00

Sky Cinema - £14.00

Sky HD - £4.00

Sky 3D - £0.00

Sky Go Extra - £0.00

Ultra HD - £1.00

Total Bill  - £73.00

This package was £59.50 when I signed up two years ago and was due to become £77.99 post contract end.

I was annoyed not only because of the percentage increase, but because it is not the whole story in that I'm also now paying £15.00 for apps to access content at UHD quality that would once have been on Si-Fi / Sky Atlantic / Sky Cinema.

The way I see it is that a nearly £35.00 (52%) increase over a two year period to access broadly the same content is an unreasonable ask. I believe Sky could do better.  Do you have a deal that proves it?

Not allowed on here I'm afraid, try the MSE website.

The percentage increases are worked out on the basic price and not your discounted prices, it's obviously your choice whether to take the higher tiers or not, the same would apply standalone. Content is constantly moving platforms and that won't change regardless of who you're with.

£73 is less than I pay.  But ymmv.

Same but with no kids but with multi screen.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

Why would Comcast Corporation stockholders choose to accept reduced return on investment?

Their Sky Group division hasn't been profitable for half the time they've owned it, on top of the 8.6 billion dollar write-down in 2022 on the original purchase price.

Sorry couldn't resist:

Sky 3D - £0.00

That's an excellent bargain price for a gimmick which was thankfully closed down and put out of its misery over a decade ago. It doesn't exist. It shouldn't be listed on any bills. Those 3D TVs were limited to HD and haven't been sold for many years. Like those "bendy" TVs, another fad.

😂

I believe 2017 was the last year any manufacturer released a 3D television set, but, for what it's worth, many models of projector have retained that functionality (largely because it's really cheap to implement on such hardware)

It still appears on mine. It seems thankfully that £0.00 must be the base price since I didnt get two lots of RPI uplift on it

In view of how hard up you suggest the business is, one would think they'd be eager to take whatever they can get.

Since I've had the same Sky Q box for getting on 10 years, and the cost of the provision of services to me on an ongoing basis is likely next to nothing at this point bearing in mind they are going to be paying for the content they show and renting satellite space to carry their channels irrespective of whether I'm a customer or not, getting £720 a year out of me rather than £0 for the next couple of years would be a much more attractive proposition for their shareholders.

As a Comcast shareholder myself, I'd certainly say I'd prefer they were collecting what they can from people like me rather than watching us walk away by being stubborn over £20 a month.

Using that convoluted thinking, shouldn't we all get it for free?

Yes, of course, that's why I posted. It's on the bill but doesn't exist as a channel. From @TimmyBGood 's post above, in theory you could have a projector and watch some "on demand" Sky 3D content (limited to HD and SDR of course).

Reductio ad absurdum one might say.

I certainly wouldn't pay £14.00 for Sky Cinema to get Paramount included  Netflix is costing you £14.99/£15.99 if you add the UHD but that also gives you 4k Sports and Cinema and other Sky Channels in UHD

Disney + Premium is cheaper going direct for 6 months alot cheaper than the £14.00 for Sky Cinema

I used the free VIP Paramount offer so I'm not tied into Sky Cinema

I don't have Sky Q or Sky Stream  my Sky TV Subscription is watched via Sky Go either on my phone or computer attached to a non 4k tv  just mainly for F1 and the Footie

I don't have Sky Kids or Sky Cinema but I do have Multiscreen I'm paying  just a little bit less than £73.00

Plenty of Sky Deals out there google is your friend.

Didn't that end for new contracts from December 2023.
