Set up UHD/HDR

I've just upgraded to UHD and have watched each the UHD/HDR tutorials. When I play the test card it goes through the speaker set up and that's it. At the bottom of the screen in the boxes the lines in the first box are fine, in the next box the SD lines are fine, in the UHD box the lines come halfway down from the top and in the HDR box there are no lines at all.

I thought from the tutorials that the test card remained on screen and then you would go into your tv settings and make the necessary adjustments from there. If someone could advise how to fix this that would be great.

When  I'm in sports in UHD the picture look like there's a film on the screen that needs to be removed to show a clearer picture. The TV is a Sony KD-49XD8305

All my opinions are my own.

Hi @Cooper+D   What is the length and speed of your HDMI lead. Have you connected it to one of the enhanced ports and enabled enhanced?

Hi @Cooper+D

To be realistic you will not get the full benefit of UHD/HDR on smaller screens.

Re: Set up UHD/HDR

@MightyQuinn I used the hdmi cable that came with the Q box. The cable is in an enhanced port and the TV is set to enhanced mode.

Hi @Cooper+D   I can see your maximum brightness for your set is only 330 cd/m2. As a comparison, my old KD-55XE9305 was 1500 cd/m2. I wouldn't expect very good HDR on such a low brightness. You will probably be far better off using 2160p 8bit.

Re: Set up UHD/HDR

@MightyQuinn To get the best out of UHD/HDR would it require a TV upgrade?

Hi @Cooper+D   Opportunity to upgrade, in my opinion, your 2016 TV should be okay with 2160p 8bit with no HDR. I upgraded my KD-55XE9305 to a XR-55A95K OLED (a different league completely). I take it you have a 32B1 or 32B2 Sky Q box.

Well, you will get the benefit of HDR

Especially if it can go bright enough.

edit: ah 330nits may not be enough to do a decent job with HLG. HDR10 stuff out of the apps should be ok.

yeah. 55-65 inches to appreciate the extra detail and 800nits or more ideally to get the contrast range and wider colour spectrum of HLG displayed properly.

hi @Cooper+D

the others have advised re your TV but I just thought I'd confirm a couple of things:

the Testcard is less than 1 minute - to set your TV you will need to pause it - I see no degredation by pausing

There is no HDR section as such just Sections labeleled nothing, SD, HD & UHD )or at least on the version I get) - THere is HDR lettering at the bottom of the screen

On my 55" Panasonic OLED I get definition in each section although I have to be quite close to the TV to make out the segregation of the lines in the UHD section - the video unfortunately a mock up with exaggerated separation.
