Series linking not functioning

Series linking is, at best, sporadic.  Sometimes when selecting "series link", 1st episode will indicate linked but no subsequent episodes set to record.  Other times random episodes will link, very occasionally all episodes will link. Most annoying as we are about to go away and want to link beyond 7 days.
