Satellite dish

I’ve had some kind of digital box fitted and the engineer said we didn’t need the satellite dish any more… I’ve disconnected it and now the tv guide doesn’t work. What have I done wrong 🫣

Hi @Rhian1239

Have you changed your Sky subscription from Sky Q to Sky Stream?

Let's take one step at a time, what was this 'digital box' you had installed & by who

When you say "the TV guide doesn't work" do you mean the Sky TV Guide, or your televisions own guide?

@Rhian1239

That's an ONT for 'full fibre' broadband.  It has nothing directly to do with your television service.

If, however, you are also switching to Sky Glass or Sky Stream television, those systems replace Sky Q and remove the need for a satellite dish because their content is delivered entirely online.

If neither of those are in place, your Q box still needs its satellite cabling.

An ONT does not by itself replace a satellite dish feed.

We can't see your photo because, as a new contributer, it has to be vetted.  However, if it was BT TV, why would you have that & Sky?

Hi @Rhian1239

Looks like you have BT fibre to the property installed.

This has nothing to do with your Satellite dish and if you have Sky Q you still need the main Q box connected by the two cable to the Dish.

You might have to reconnect the Q box to your new BT modem/router to get an internet connection.

I suspect they meant that you now have such a fast connection that you COULD realistically change from a dish based system to an internet streaming based system like Sky Stream.

The Sky Q box you have is unaffected and still needs its connection to the dish for live TV. But its downloads/on-demand stuff will probably be a lot faster now.

I assume you did order a faster fibre based internet service and some installer didn't just show up and connect this up on a whim?

I wish they'd done a better job with the ONT location, and that fibre is cut awfully brief...
