SD subscription update

Our current Sky Q tv package is coming to an end.

We want to keep it pretty much as is, we watch mainly Netflix and Sky sports, both of which we are told are in HD.

If this is the case why are we paying SkyHD and SkySportsHD subscriptions? What benefit is it to us?

Would we lose anything if we were to cancel them? I can not get a straight answer out of Sky!

hi @Lucyliu2

The first thing to note is that  whilst SKY Sports HD is listed separately in bills it is actually now standard & part of the SKY Sports and thus cannot be cancelled (In the UK at least) - it can be confusing but due to the billing system.

For the HD add on, it is up to you as to whether the actual  programmes you watch are OK in SD - some channels are still available in HD without the HD add on, such as BBC, ITV, C4 & Channel 5 but there is a slight quirk that you can watch and record C4 & Channel 5 in HD but not download in HD from catch up for these without the HD add on.

If you scroll down the EPG you will find SD versions of many of the channels so you can see what watching them would be like

Re: SD subscription update

Thank you Nigea that is very kind.

In real terms there is very little that we watch other than Netflix and Sky sports, mostly live/timeshifted.

My understanding is that Netflix is HD anyway as is live sport.
Assuming Sky are not downgrading programs because we are cheapskates!

If we do cancel, is there anything we would miss do you think?

yes Netflix is in HD & as mentioned Sports is in HD  (the bills show it separately but always charged)

I suspect you wouldn't miss the (entertainment) HD add on - although you need to be aware that SKY Sports Mix & SKY Sports News are not part of SKY Sports sub so you would need to watch these in SD

(although note : if you watch sports & subscribe to UHD I don't think you can cancel HD without cancelling UHD)

As i mentioned you can see what the SD channels would like on your TV by checking the channels further down the EPG
