Returning a found Sky Q box

I've found a brand new, boxed and unused 1Tb Sky Q box in my loft. Do I need to send it to Sky or can I simply put it out for the binmen?

@Topscooby

There aren't any brand new Q boxes ; )

The original 1TB from 2016 is effectively obsolete.

If it's the 1TB UHD HDR from 2019 then Sky would probably like it back.

Re: Returning a found Sky Q box

@TimmyBGood

 Thank you so much for your reply to my question and for the link.

However, I'm not cancelling any services nor changing to a different piece of equipment. That link and the subsequent information doesn't seem to cover my situation. I think the box is fairly new and wouldn't be surprised if it was the newer model.

I do think it's been in my loft post Covid (so around 2020/21) but can't be certain.

To use the link you provided I would need to include my current Sky account details and I really don't want to do that as it could open a can of worms with my account...which is running smoothly (touch wood). I don't mind giving Sky all my details but don't want to start anything that would make it look like I'm cancelling or changing any of my services. I only found the box by chance during a massive clear out of my loft due to bereavement... sadly, my wife of 35 years passed away!

I do appreciate your response though.

There is a link to the royal mail website to print off a returns lable at https://www.sky.com/help/articles/recycle-sky-equipment which doesn't appear to require Sky accont details, although I've not followed it fully through.

@Topscooby

Since this box has been in the loft if you've cancelled a Sky Q subscription Sky will  have requested it back and sent you packaging for it if they were expecting its return. The same would apply if you've changed to Stream or Glass or upgraded to a 2TB Sky Q box.

Re: Returning a found Sky Q box

@Me134  Yes, however once you do follow the instructions right through it does indeed require all your account information.

@Daniel0210  We did change from Sky Q to Sky Stream and all the Sky Q equipment was returned to Sky...which they acknowledged.

However, this appears to be an additional, unused box that has never been removed from it's original packaging.

Thank you both for your inputs.

That would be unusual as boxes are checked out and in individually.

But it is what it is.  Returning it to Sky would be the best move regardless even if there's no 'non-return' charge in play.

Putting it out for the 'binmen' is not a great idea - it should be recycled properly...

Re: Returning a found Sky Q box

@PandJ2020

Returning it to sky is my preferred option...if only it were that simple! I was thinking of emailing their customer service team to ask them if they wanted it but can't find a suitable email address for them.

When I suggested putting it out for the binmen I did actually mean for recycling as we have the facilities to place small electronic devices alongside our green wheelie bins and these items are taken away and disposed of accordingly.

Thank you for your response.
