Removing an unwanted/ unrequested app Ssundee

A few weeks ago, my son came across a new app that came up on the Sky homepage with the apps called Ssundee.

Its the most annoying app ever, a man playing video games.  We certainly didnt request it and im sure as he is 6 he didnt download it.. (id like to think....)

The question. I cannot put a pin on it as it doesn't give me the option in the family settings on this. Ive gone onto this channel and cannot find anyway of blocking it.

@GodstegizmoWith Sky we only get the apps that Sky gives us and we can't add or delete apps HOWEVER "Ssundee" is a subscription in Youtube as I don't use youtube have not used subscriptions there should be an unsubscribe button in Ssundee.

As @bob1234 indicates, that's not an app by itself: it's a 'channel' within YouTube (and one of countless similar video gameplay channels: my son spent far more time watching other people play Minecraft than he ever played it himself).  You would need to restrict the YouTube app to prevent viewing, but this would restrict all of YouTube.

You can also add a PIN to Sky Q apps that you don’t want your kids watching or using.

To do this: 

1. Press Home on your Sky Q remote and select Settings, then Parental.
2. Enter your Sky TV PIN.
3. Select PIN for Apps, then you can apply a PIN to all apps or select individual apps, to do this select the app you want to add a PIN to, by pressing the right button and selecting ‘on’.
4. To remove a PIN for an app, follow the instruction above but change it to ‘no’.
5. Once a PIN has been added to an app, every time it’s accessed you’ll need to enter the PIN to open the app.

Unfortunately 'subscribe' and 'unsubscribe' in YouTube have a different meaning to elsewhere, and don't actually control access: they mostly affect the users feed/notifications and provide data to the underlying algorithm (and associated advertising)

Once you subscribe to a channel, any new videos it publishes will show up in your Subscriptions feed. You may also start getting notifications when a channel you subscribe to publishes new content.

Thanks guys. Ive no idea how the little munchkins have got this channels onto the homepage. I cannot figure them out. Unfortunately the PIN setting doesnt have these channels in there. Youtube subscriptions are saying nothing exists. Very frustrating as he will sit and watch this all day if allowed, and then have nightmares. So frustrating that sky even had this feature!!!

I would observe that both YouTube and Sky will say that someone of that age shouldn't have unsupervised access to YouTube at all, and so neither of them will take responsibility for unwanted viewing.

Again, it's not PIN control of 'channels' you are looking for (those are for television) : it's PIN control of the YouTube app.  

YouTube 'subscriptions' are not relevant

Ok. Thanks. They use the youtube kids as we are aware of the issues of youtube and the problems it can cause. It seems that when they watch endless videos of a certain channel, ssundee, ninjakidz, for whatever reason it downloads itself onto the 'new in' section on the sky apps screen. Very frustrating as the safe mode is damn annoying when we want to just catch up with some tv!

Yes, sadly Sky's products have become less about receiving actual TV programmes and more about pushing advertising of anything and everything that's out there, masquerading under the banner of it being 'TV simplified' or 'all in one place, easy'. But ultimately, they control all of it. 

Personally I like to curate my own viewing and don't need the avalanche of tosh that's now thrown across the home screen, hence part of the fact I've moved away from Sky as my main source of TV. 

With an Apple TV 4K box I much prefer having the option of which apps to install and having control over what appears on the home screen. It's much less headache inducing than Sky's!

After sharing the same frustrations I have found a solution. In parental controls pin protect game works app as both are linked. You are welcome 🙂

I'd suggest it's much worse than that, because while content on all the actual television channels is very firmly regulated in UK law, YouTube absolutely isn't, and relies on YT to 'moderate' while simultaneously trying to increase eyball-on-ad rates.  Sky has zero control of what is on YouTube while presenting it very prominently their interface and offering only non-default and frankly obscure settings to limit access.

As @Chesterfield+owl  explains in post 11,  you can PIN protect the opening of Apps such as Ssundee and Ninjikidz in Home>>>settings >>>Parental >>>Manage parental settings >>>PIN for apps and ON for Play.Works

This will hopefully prevent your child from viewing these annoying apps if they don't know the pin number

You can also pin protect Youtube and YouTube Kids if you so wish.

Ps. It's not correct that when they watch endless videos of a certain channel, ssundee, ninjakidz, for whatever reason it downloads itself onto the 'new in' section on the sky apps screen.  These apps are in my 'new in' section and I've never watched them. So they are purposely added by Sky.

Again, they aren't themselves apps: they are placemarkers for videos served within the YouTube app.

But they are in the Apps section and they won't open from the new in section without a PIN if you set up pin protection
