Problems recording and accessing recordings

A message appears on screen saying cannot be recorded when I try to record a program which I have previously been able to record.

For the programmes that I have recorded in the past and am now wanting to view a message comes at the top of the screen saying this programme is no longer available. 

I have tried turning everything off at the power switch and then rebooting with no effect

Looks suspiciously like you may have a hard drive issue @Drbj
