Problem with my SkyQ

We have been having a problem with Sky Q ever since we had it installed, the main problem is that the boxes cannot be networked, if they could then the system would work, but our house is very large and the remote boxes cannot reach the main box and also as they cannot be networked though switches (which is a totally stupid ddesign choice).

We are getting totally fed up trying to get it to work, spending thousands on different MESH Wireless networks trying to get it to work, some with a little responce but all different types being unreliable.

We would like to go back to the original Sky + Boxes as those were networkable and worked throughout our house without any problems, we were told that Sky Q would be an upgrade but it has been the total opposite and has never worked properly since we had it upgraded.

I would not mind but Sky keep putting there prices up but the services are generally getting worse.

That is not an option I'm afraid.

They can, but...

...but not generally via 3rd party mesh networks.  Q was designed well before such networks were available and uses proprietry protocols for QoS.

The mesh may work if Q boxes are connected to a node via Ethernet - but can cause traffic issues.

They can be networked via unmanaged switches.  A VLAN may also work.

@jamessawle

Not quite correct.

Unless you’ve recently changed your subscription, prices increase due to either the annual price increase (April in the UK), your discounts have ended, or a combination of the two.

Re: Problem with my SkyQ

We have tried VLAN's but we did not have much luck this way either, the remote boxes would work for about 5-10 minutes then fail and all we got was a Black screen saying that it could not connect to the main box. We are not going to change the backbone that we have here as it has cost a small fortune, the entire network was just re-wired to CAT8 just 6 months back, again clutching at straws trying to get Sky to work, are switches are all 10Gb+ Cisco switches, if it is not an option to revert to Sky + then we will just have to stop the direct debits and stop using sky, we download most shows now anyway and watch them via NAS Servers anyway as well as netflix.

I was just trying to find an option where we could still use Sky, it is only watched on the weekend when we all have dinner together and watch the normal X-Factor, Antiuques Roadshow, Countryfile sort of rubbish, during the week we are normally glued to Netflix, Amazon Prime or Plex.

And for the comment from someone saying that they have not increased there costs, well since installation the cost has gone up twice and we have just been notified that it is going up again soon, it maybe only £5 at a time but with absolutly everything becoming a subscription based model these days, it does not seem advisable to pay for a subscription package that has never worked.

If we do not have the option to go back to Sky+ then I will have to cancel, I was just checking if there were any other options available.

Thanks

James.

You cannot cancel this way.  You have to contact Sky and give 31 days notice.

Cancelling your DD will give you issues.

@jamessawle

Reverting back to Sky+ is definitely not an option.

Cancelling the direct debit is definitely not recommended. Doing that is going to cause you additional problems. Your services will be restricted, you won't be able to call Sky, you wont be able to cancel, late payment fees will be added and eventually Sky will involve a debt recovery company which may affect your credit rating.
