Powerline Adaptor for Sky Q

After continuous issues with my Sky Q dropping off my wifi I'm going to purchase a pair of powerline adaptors.

i've a Sky Max router and wanted to ask about speed. It seems I can get powerline adapters that offer different speeds and there in no point buying something faster than I need as they will be limited by the capability of the Sky Q and router Ethernet ports.

Im looking at the TP-Link range and was wondering which is my best option. I need power pass through and multiple Ethernet ports would be an advantage but it the speed I'm most worried about.

Thank you for your help.

I've answered my own question.

TP-Link support say the TL-PA4020PKIT adapters are fast enough for my 150 Full Fibre Broadband.

Re: Powerline Adaptor for Sky Q

Hi, Someone must know the answer about the best minimum powerline adapter to use between my Sky Q box and Sky Max router.

I do not want to buy adapters which have better performance than I need to get the best out of both devices.

Thank you for your help

Not sure that makes a lot of difference, I don't think you'll  get anything like that from the Sky devices

I am just another Sky customer!

I would disagree with that. With AV600's you are probably looking at 70-90 Mbps at best because of the 100Mbps port and depending on your mains wiring. Still good enough for connecting Sky boxes together. I'm currently using some AV1200's and only getting 145 Mbps max.

@simon194

This is useful, thank you.

I was thinking of the TL-PA9020P KIT would be a good replacement.

There are so many to choose.

Get the fastest ones you can afford. You'll need the higher speed one day and they don't operate at their rated speed anyway, except in absolutely ideal conditions.

Hi, did the powerline solution work for you? I recently installed Sky WiFi max and I've had nothing but trouble since with my three Sky Q minis.

Re: Powerline Adaptor for Sky Q

Yes, absolutely.

I've turned off wifi in the Sky Q box and rely on the Powerline Adapters. I did upgrade to some higher spec adapters just to give some performance headroom.

It works, I rarely give it a second thought now.

Re: Powerline Adaptor for Sky Q

That's great - thanks for coming back to me.

So what I'm thinking of doing is this - would appreciate it if you could confirm please?:

Connect Sky Q box to Sky max router by Ethernet.

Connect Powerline to Sky max router.

Connect Sky Q minis by powerline.

Turn off WiFi on Sky Q main box and all of the Sky Q minis.

Thanks again.

Re: Powerline Adaptor for Sky Q

Hi, in theory yes.

It will depend on the quality of your mains circuits/cabling and whether or not they are all on connected ring mains.

The only way to know is to try it.

Also, just to mention that I purchased these

TP-Link TL-PA8033PKIT AV1300 Gigabit Passthrough 2x2 MIMO Powerline Adapter Starter Kit, Powerline Network Adapters with 3 Gigabit Ports for Smart TVs or Game Consoles, No Configuration Required

with the extra ports so I could plug other devices in if needed.

If you want very high speeds for very high quality streaming then you might consider faster ones.

I just used a switch in front of a single port powerline adapter to solve that.
