Ongoing mini box connectivity issues
Hi,
We have a Sky Q main box which is connected to our router via Ethernet. We then have two mini boxes which recently we have had constant issues with in terms of connectivity. Some days we turn on one of the mini boxes and it works fine, however the majority of the time we turn them on and have the dreaded no connection message. I reset the connection, but then it will say there is an issue with the router and that it cannot obtain an IP address. We did have an engineer visit a few weeks ago who installed a Sky booster, but I have noticed that the 'connected' light is not on and this seems to be when we are having the problems. We had this yesterday but managed to resolve it after spending about an hour resetting and powering off different devices over and over (not how I want to be spending my time on a daily basis) and reconnecting by pressing down the WPS. In terms of broadband connectivity, I have done a speed test in each of the rooms the sky devices are located in and we get over 300mb, so I'm struggling to believe it's down to a weak WiFi signal. Any ideas?

Re: Ongoing mini box connectivity issues
The booster is on the other side of the room from the main box in the lounge. One mini box is in the kitchen, about 4m from the booster (although there is a wall between), and the other mini box is in the room above the main box.
Broadband is with BT (ultrafast fibre).

Re: Ongoing mini box connectivity issues
Ok so the booster is only connecting the sky boxes, over wifi it won't connect to a non-sky router
your minis need a 5GHz (or wired) direct connection to the Q, which can by via a booster. But at those kinds of distances, unless the wall is like Windsor castle, I would have expected the booster to be overkill. It sounds like it's well positioned ao not sure why it's losing the connection. Maybe worth doing some tests, maybe setting up just one mini for a few days.
My interpretation of how the sky mesh works is that the minis also connect directly to the router to get an IP on the network before they find and connect to the Q but that also should be fine given the positioning info.
your 300Mb wifi test won't be relevant as that must be 5GHz at that speed and the sky boxes have to use 2.4 to talk to the router.

Re: Ongoing mini box connectivity issues
It seems to drop whenever the 'connected' light goes out on the booster. Any idea why that might be happening? Pressing WPS on the booster and main box doesn't appear to make it connect either.

Re: Ongoing mini box connectivity issues
No idea. Frequency overlap with another network maybe?
you can't just press the two WPS buttons, that's not how it works. You initiate a connection search on a box then press the WPS button on whatever you want to connect to (e.g. the booster)
