Not happy with 2nd mini box
Enquired about a 2nd mini box for my son and was told it was a one off payment of £56 so I paid up and received the box however it won't work when the other mini box is in use which COMPLETELY defeats the object and when I called today I'm told that I need to pay another £50 to upgrade my main box to a 2 terabyte box which no one told me at the time. And also that I wouldn't get a full refund if I tried to send mini box back !! I have been a sky customer for years and feel a bit shafted !!

Re: Not happy with 2nd mini box
As you have now discovered, you can have a maximum of 4 mini boxes loaned to you by Sky. You can watch Sky content on two minis and the main box at the same time. You may be able to use a 3rd mini box at the same time if you’re using it for one of the apps such as Netflix.
The original 1TB (non-UHD) Sky Q box only allows one mini to be in use. All 2TBs and the UHD/HDR 1TB permit two mini boxes. Each mini box which is loaned to you may be subject to a one off upfront charge but you only need one Sky Q monthly Multiscreen subscription.

Re: Not happy with 2nd mini box
I already know everything you have just told me . I take it you work for sky but no one told me at the time about anything to do with an extra charge to upgrade my box to 2tb. How am I as a customer supposed to k ow what tb my main box is . Sky would already have been aware of what spec equipment I have but failed to tell me and quite happily took my £56. And now I can't send it back to receive a full refund. [content removed] surely the right thing to do is to send me 2tb box FOC as I have been a loyal sky customer for years or maybe they don't care about this.

As the bold text under my username and the signature at the end of my posts both state, I am not a Sky employee and the last time I looked I was a customer like yourself.

Re: Not happy with 2nd mini box
Unfortunately they do seem to leave the detail in the small print & take orders at face value, without checking which box people may have and that they fully understand the limitations on use

Re: Not happy with 2nd mini box
@Danny+da+Vito Anyone who replies here that works for Sky will be easily identifiable by the Sky Staff tag near their username, everyone one else is a fellow customer and not a bot.
I see one of your posts has disappeared and in that you mentioned you knew about the limitations, if you knew before requesting the second box it makes it hard to see and validity in your complaint, however if you found out afterwards then you may well have a valid complaint about the customer service rep not mentioning the limitations.

Re: Not happy with 2nd mini box
Yep apologies I only noticed that after I replied. Your answer just felt a bit copy and pasted that's all. And it didn't answer my question so I have filed a complaint to sky now as ghis obviously isn't the place to do so

Re: Not happy with 2nd mini box
The first reply (post 2) is pretty much one I have saved in templates as it does come up periodically. Obviously I don't know what knowledge you had regarding the number of mini boxes each main box is capable of supporting.
edit: I haven't removed your earlier post, so it was probably swallowed up by the filters and may return in due course.

Re: Not happy with 2nd mini box
Neither did I until a phone call this afternoon but should have been told at time of ordering and parting with my money. Why should I know about what tb my main box is ......I'm not a nerd!! I just feel sky should have made it all clear to me at the time but they failed to do so

Re: Not happy with 2nd mini box
A bit of light reading
To check which Sky box you have:
- Press Home on your Sky Q remote.
- Select Settings followed by System info.
- Check your Hardware version and use the table below to see which type of Sky Q box you have.
You’ll also be able to see whether you've got the right software version for your Sky box. If it doesn’t match what's in the table below, go to update your Sky box software.
Hardware version number | Type of Sky box | Software version number | HDR-capable? | Upgrade available? |
---|---|---|---|---|
32B0xx | Sky Q 2TB | Q210.000.6.03L | No | Yes - you can upgrade to the latest Sky Q 2TB box. |
32B1xx | Sky Q 2TB | Q210.000.6.03L | Yes | No - you're already on the latest Sky Q 2TB box. |
32B2XX | Sky Q 1TB UHD or Sky Q 2TB* | Q210.000.6.03L | Yes | Check the * information below the table. |
32Cxx | Sky Q 1TB | Q210.000.6.03L | No | Yes - you can upgrade to a Sky Q 1TB UHD Box |
32Dxx | Sky Q Mini box | Q210.000.6.03L | No | No - you already have the latest Sky Q Mini box |
