Re: Next firmware update

What would the point be in hoovering the vents in a 6 day old SKY Q box? The problem is that tiny little fan in the 1TB Box. In fact I had the box on my PANASONIC UB820 and on saturday night I put on 4K a blu ray. I thought the Blu Ray Player was being extra loud but it turned out to be the 1TB Box that was extremely loud.

I've been upgraded to a 2TB Box a few minutes ago  (For some reason I asked for a 2TB HDR Box and got a 2TB Box that doesn't support HDR). It does seem like the box the engineer put in has a bigger fan in it though and So far its much quieter. Its the box with the silver trim. hopefully this new box will be quieter. I can live without the HDR because it will mainly be for SKY Sports F1 anyway.

@steve30xIf it has the silver stripe and an external power unit it is the V2 and will be quieter and support HDR.

Not completely sure how I was supposed to telepathically know the age of your Sky box.

Glad to hear your 2TB one is quieter. I've only had 2TB boxes so maybe a design issue with the fan in the 1TB though not heard it a common problem.

@steve30x As @bob1234 says if the new box has an external power supply then it is capable of HDR as it will be a V2 box.

If the box has an internal power supply and has Silver Trim it will be a V1 box which is not capable of HDR

Yup its the V1 box. It has an internal Power supply and silver trim. I just spent about 30+ minutes on the phone with a SKY Technician trying to explain to him that the box I was upgraded to was the older box that doesn't support HDR. I had to explain to him about five or six times that I wasn't saying the box ox doesnt support 4K. I told him a few times that its an older box with silver trim that doesn't support HDR.

I don't know what he was reading but he said what he was looking at shows that the box I got supported HDR mistaking the 4K resolution for HDR. Anyway he said he is taking it up with his manager to see if they can get the box changed for one that supports HDR. I'm not getting my hopes up though.

But right now the box I have is beautifully quiet and I hope it remains like that. Its so much quieter than the 1TB hoover that I had.

The hardware version of the box that I was given is 32B064 and according to this SKY page its not HDR compatible

The number of Sky employees who don't seem to understand that UHD and HDR are different things is scarey. They need to make a simple little chart and force it as everyone's wallpaper for a month.

Re: Next firmware update

SKY should just give them some kind of sheet with the info on the difference between 4K and HDR or some internal website with the proper info at least. It should tell them what HDR is and what 4K is and explain that they're not the same thing

@steve30x definately agree wouldn't take much to produce that sort of thing

Because millions of users really enjoy it when things move around and they can't find the feature they want?

Once an OS is stable, the last thing it needs is gratuitous UI changes: see Windows 11 relocating the Power button as a case in point.

As a case in point they moved around and changed a whole lot more than just the start menu in windows 11. Another thing they changed is the right click menu. To get the classic right click menu on the desktop you have to right click then go down to another menu to get to most of the options from the right click menu. They made it far hardwr to get to the classic control panel. They changed all the settings in the settings screen. Thats just a small few of the large ammount of things moved around or changed in windows 11

You just picked the one thing and ran with it. If the start button was the only thing they changed in windows 11 compared to windows 10 then it would be a valid point but it goes a lot deeper than just re positioning the start button which can be moved back to the left if one wishes to do so.
