Hi , I Have an old Panasonic TV not smart about 15 years old . Have got Sky Q about 8 months ago from Sky plus HD and pay for HD . Recently purchased a Samsung OLED HDR 4K ultra smart TV being delivered 1/11. Am I right in thinking I need a new Sky Q box ? And need to upgrade package to Ultra HD . Thank you .

hi @trinnyessex
You do not need a new SKY Q box to be able to watch on your new TV - All SKY Q boxes will provide a HD picture which will look fine on it.
If you want to take advantage of the UHD content from SKY then you do need the UHD add on
It will depend on your curent box as to whether you will need to upgrade it to watch SKY in UHD - and also depening on your other subs apps like Netflix - although for these apps we recommend using the TV's inbuilt apps anyway
To see what box yuou have see:
Home - Settings - System Info - Hardware Version
If it is 32Cxxx then you have an older 1TB non-UHD Box (i.e. HD max)
If it is 32B0xxx then you have a (V1) UHD but non HDR 2TB Box
If it is 32B1xxx then you have a (V2) UHD HDR 2TB Box (which has a separate Power supply)
If it is 32B2xxx then you have a (V3) UHD HDR 1TB or 2TB Box
SKY do charge to upgrade a box

Note that even if your Q box is not capable of UHD, the built-in apps on the television set itself will be. Only a very small percentage of Sky content is in that resolution, and your new OLED will do an excellent job of upscaling HD.

Yes I have checked and it's an older box 32c....
so I can keep that box but just upgrade to Ultra for an extra £4pm ?
Thank you for your help both

No.
You'd need to swap your box for a newer version capable of UHD and subscripe to UltraHD*. Sky are likely to charge £50-100 one-off depending on how they're feeling and your negotiation skills.
* if you want your Q to natively output 2160P.

hi @trinnyessex
If yyou have a 32Cxxxx box you need to upgrade the box as well as take out the UHD sub. to get UHD.
A UHD sub alone will not help & whilst they shouldn't really allow it with a non UHD box theny might - with previous Netflix plans having UHD sub without a box did actually help some customers who wanted more active Screens but this no longer applies

don't forget to hold on to your viewing card!
and watch out for an external power supply in the box. Some UHD boxes have that so it's not a straight swap just for the box itself, you have to swap the power cable too in that case.

hi @trinnyessex
You may need to change some settings for the HDMI used to be able to get 10 bit HDR - although these settings may now be standard
As it is a while since I posted re these I can't remember all the different TV manufacturers settings although I think the Samsung setting is Deep Color but I could be wrong.

Sky Q set up on Samsung tv . All good thanks. However I'm paying now for UHD and I see that channel 857 uhd says I need to upgrade package ? Do I need to talk to Sky about this ? I thought all channels showing UHD were included ? . Some say I need to upgrade package? Thanks
