New sky q jox

Hi I live in a flat downstairs and have sky broadband. However I have got a new sky q box for my bedroom for sky tv but haven't received the viewing card. 
if and when I get the card will the box work? Do I need anything done to communal sky within the block

Sky Q boxes are installed by an engineer.

If this is an extra Q box for your bedroom (ie a mini box) then these do not have viewing cards and work as WiFi slaves from the main Q box.

If it is your Main and only Q box to which you are referring then you really need a Sky Engineer to fit it to to your Communal system.  And yes they do need a viewing card.
