Multi room queries

I am looking at upgrading to Sky Q, however I have some queries over its use.  At the moment I have the HD set up with a multi room box in another and these work independently from each other meaning the box I use for the main box has a different set up from the multi box in terms of favourites and planners etc. I have read that the Sky Q multi box runs off the main box but does this support a similar set up whereby you can have different set ups for favourites and planners or does the main box dictate these items on the multi box, i.e I set a reminder for Gogglebox on the main box does this only appear on the mainbox or both, so it pops up the reminder on both boxes?  And if I have Dave as a favourite channel on the main box but the person operating the multi box doesn't like Dave and wants TLC instead can they have a separate list or again is this dictated by the main box?  I know that you can watch different channels at once but does the multi box open with that of the main box as to what was last watched or does it hold its own settings of the multi box?  And if you record something on the main box is this accessible on the multi box, I know the multi box does not support recorded items on a drive but can the multi box send a recording to the main box and then access from that box?

@dlb1

  • The 'planner' is the same on all boxes. You can't personalise them.
  • Different Favourite channels can be selected for each box
  • Sky Q doesn't have (and never has had, or will have) reminders
  • All recordings or downloads are stored on the hard drive of the main box and can be watched on any box with the exception of UHD programmes which are only viewable on the main box.

hi @dlb1

@Daniel0210 has kinly answered your specific questions I think but I think you may, also,  benefit from reading some notes I have made for people considering switching from SKY +/HD to SKY Q that cover some of these amongst others

SKY +/HD to SKY Q

One further point prompted by your queries that I don't thnk I mentioned in the notes:

Regarding recordings, there is only one 'marker' to indicate where last watched so if you both are watching but at different points but stop watching it will show the last place watched by the last one who  watched.

BTW Navigation within recordings is quite easy by voice control

Re: Multi room queries

With regards to the reminders, so it's not like with Sky HD where I have a viewing list that is set to record proframmes automatically or bring up a notification that tells me my programme is about to start?

No as we have both stated reminders as a function has never been implemented - we think one of the reasons being how more difficult it would be to implement in the way SKY Q multiscreen works without any user profile system

your only option is to record (with or without a series link if available)

No, and you touched on why it's possibly an issue as on which box does the reminder appear?

Without 'profiles' there would only be complaints about unnecessary popups - possibly more complaints than no reminders at all...

Whilst I understand many still like linear viewing it's not the future with streaming.
